That last game was so good, Angi's retrieval was superb. Shame it had to be decided on a net cord, Domi played well and was very aggressive in her play.

Ah amazing. Just amazing. I'm devastated for Kerber but Cibulkova wow.

I know she came through the RR 1-2 like Aga but she played so good against Kerber in the RR stage and to defeat the number 1 in the final was such a good match! Compared to Radwanska last year it was boring sorry to say.

Just so happy for her. Had such a terrible 2015 with injuries, such a good year this year and what a tournament she's had here. Such a tight match against Kerber in the RR, bad match against Keys but great match against Halep. And then survived a thriller against Kuznetsova in the SF amazing.

Crazy that a few days ago we thought she'd be out. In the 3rd RR she needed to defeat Halep in straight sets and hope Kerber would defeat Keys in straights, which she did!

Kerber could've knocked Cibulkova out if she lost a set to Keys! She'd be annoyedabout that ;) still such a good week. Many storylines, Kuznetsova's resurgence and all the matches played, Cibulkova's good week and what a final and of course Kerber in the RR was so good. Great week. Very happy.

Well done. Fantastic final performance from Cibulkova, really happy for her. It's been a really enjoyable tournament overall too.

Yup good point. Stosur is another, has a commanding 5-0 lead over her. Small Cibulkova understandably struggled with power. Kerber needs to be stronger but in saying that, Cibby is playing lights out.

the big strong girls and/or tall girls. Stosur wins all their matches easily ... and of course Serena pounds her flat.

Cibs has to find a way to counter power, more versatility like a Radwanska or Vinci is the way to go, I think. She is far better a player now than years ago when she was hitting 50 winners 60 UFE. I really like the way she rallied until she got the point under control and simply outright out slugged Kerber from the back tonight.

I don't want to see any comments criticising Kerber and saying lol at number 1 losing cause if you watched that match, you'd know that Cibulkova arguably played the best match of her career.

Cibulkova is all heart. She reminds me of a bulldog that never ever gives up. I am so very happy for her and the hard work she's done to get this far.

Wishing her a successful 2017! I can see a rivalry brewing between her and Kerber, though.

Really hope she can break through and win a slam next year unlike Radwanska who couldn't do anything really at slams this year with three 4R losses (lol at losing to Konjuh at the USO) Funnily enough one of them was against Cibulkova.

Yup, good matches all week :D Even if the final was straight sets it was a terrific display from Cibulkova.

Damn just wish Kerber won it haha. Would've been the best way to end her best year. And can't help but think that it is a bit awkward that our year end champion went 1-2 in the RR and didn't reach a slam SF all year.. But it was still a really good week and she played lights out in that match!

Congratulations, Dominika. What a fighter. I hope that one day she will supplement her CV with a slam.

As for Kerber: 5th final loss this year (including WTA, Olympics and Wimbledon). Her record in finals is 3-5, but two of those wins are slam finals. She and Wawrinka know how to bring it to slams, but struggle elsewhere.

Either way, Kerber has been the steadiest player this year and her ranking at the end of the year reflects that. Great year!

Commentators saying that they're not even sure if they've ever seen a player play peak tennis like that in a final.

She stepped up in the biggest final of her career. What more can you ask from her? A lot of players both male and female should take note of how not to choke in the biggest final of your life and how to step up.
Haven't watched the final but if Kerber played anything close to her best then well deserved.

Kerber didn't play close to her best and she was too passive/defensive but part of it was due to the fact the Cibulkova wouldn't let Kerber play her best. Cibulkova was aggressive from start to finish.

Watch it before you judge. Kerber wasn't at her absolute best but Cibulkova was definitely at hers.
Which part of "if" did you miss? I said if she played close to her best, then (B).

Doesn't change the fact that she lost 2 matches in the group and still won the tournament as did Radwanska a year ago.

Well what a crazy year it has been for the WTA.
Nobody could have guessed Kerber's meteoric rise, Sharapova getting banned, Serena losing two straight slam finals, Muguruza winning a slam, Cibulkova making her comeback, Konta's massive rise, Pliskova making a slam final, Puig winning Olympic gold and so much more.
Crazy year.
Oh and we aren't done for the year. Still got Zhuhai coming up as well. Players include Konta, Kvitova, Stosur, Vesnina, Suarez Navarro and more!

You phrased it so that if Kerber didn't play well then it wouldn't be deserved for Cibulkova.

So what? That's the format of the tournament. Complain to the WTA. The point is that once she got to the final (where it really matters) she stepped up. Let's see Monfils, Thiem, Raonic, and those other mug male players in the WTF do that this year. What we'll probably see is same old same old, i.e. a Djokovic win.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the match but I'm absolutely delighted for Domi :) - a fantastic player and a lovely person as well. Kerber is the deserving YE#1 but it has to hurt that she's lost so many big finals in the last few months(Wimbledon, Olympics, Cinci and now the WTA Championship ).

I get a YEC, you get a YEC, everybody gets a YEC (except Halep)!
Just kidding, great win for Cibulkova. I had a feeling she could win this.

What are you talking about? Nobody is saying that. Get that negativity out of here.

All my congrats to Dominika!

No disregards to Kerber, but how nice it is to see a small-but-buffed-up lady like Dominika to take this title from all of those "Towering Inferno's"- aka at least 1:75 meters, if not more - fellow contestors.

My BF was very happy to see her win too, if only because her sizes pretty much resemble mine (I'm just a mite smaller - 1:59 meters, 53 Kg) - DON'T YOU DARE MESS WITH US HOBBITS!!! :D
That tenacity, that fighting spirit - awesome. Just one minor complaint: tone down the screaming habit, Dominika, please? ;)

:)

Ahahah! This "Towering Inferno's" approves your comment. :p It is certainly nice seeing players with physical disadvantages (theoretically, at least) competing and winning big titles. Hobbits deserve to be happy too!

(Oh, and let's not forget there is a "tall girl syndrome" supposedly. I don't exactly what it is, but it's a thing apparently.)
