Another Premier tournament for the WTA tour.

Top seed is Simona Halep who really needs to improve her career after a first round loss at the AO to Zhang Shuai. Second seed is Garbine Muguruza.
Remainder of the seeds are: Suarez Navarro, Kvitova, Bencic, Pliskova, Vinci and Kuznetsova.
Halep is the defending champ
Lots of big withdrawals from the event already including: world number 1 Serena, world number 2 Kerber, Bacsinszky, Radwanska, Safarova, Wozniacki and Peng Shuai.

A very packed field with great first round matches.
Some of these include:
Ivanovic v Gavrilova (the winner faces Halep)
Jankovic v Bencic
Giorgi v Petkovic

Really looking forward to this one, especially the ones you've mentioned in the first round, great matchups.
What does your username mean btw?

Serena has withdrawn from Doha as has Sharapova.

It'll be interesting to see if Bacsinszky, Kerber, Radwanska, Safarova or Wozniacki withdraw. They all withdrew from Dubai so it shall be interesting.

Plenty dough on the line in Dubai and Doha.

Not a single woman seems to be able to string more than 6 victories in a row. Is the tour too taxing or are they all playing at the same average level (hence the possibility of anyone losing to anybody else)?

I mean in general. Ok, she won 7 or 8 in a row. But do you think Angie will be the next major force on the tour? Of course not. Bencic can beat her, Vinci can beat Bencic, almost anyone on a good day can beat Vinci, etc. The last person I remember cementing any kind of form (other tan Serena, of course) was Halep and she's in a slump now.

You have a very competative tour i think. Thats how i look at it. Just cause there was almost always some dominant force doesnt mean thats how it always will be. These girls and i will even throw serena into that at times can win or lose to almost anyone. The difference between 2 and 52 basically comes down to a good day. I seriously can see someone like for example coco catching fire and winning a tournament like this. It doesnt sound right but we have been around long enough to see crazy stuff on the wta.

I agree. For some reason spystud thought I was saying something else.

It's the cement tan. And Coco has it

Muguruza out. Halep out. Ranking honestly seems to mean nothing in the WTA at the moment, unless you're Serena!

Seeds 5-8 lose in first round, top 4 with byes all get bounced in the second. Tourney organizers can't be loving this.

All 8 seeds gone by round 2 wow.

Still some good players in the 3rd round matches.
Ivanovic v Strycova. Former world number 1 vs recent AO 4R appearance and win over Muguruza (couldn't think of much else for Strycova)
Garcia v Petkovic. Rising star v former slam semifinalist and former top 10 player
Errani v Brengle. Former top 10 player and slam finalist vs 2015 AO 4R appearance (can't think of anything for Brengle really)
Vandeweghe v Svitolina. Wimbledon quarterfinalist vs French Open quarterfinalist and former top 15 player.

All the favorites have been beaten so I go with Ana Ivanovic to win! Long shot however! Ana has not won many tournaments in her career! But still, she has a good chance, given the remaining draw!
