2016 WTA Sudden Death League: Australian Open

I think 2 for the winner is enough and 1 for the top 5. I think more, even though I won, would be too much of an unfair advantage.
And I think your revised rule is great: much simpler to understand and easier to implement.
Cheers.
I think you being you is already too much of an unfair advantage! ;)

The ATP is much simpler - basically if your player loses you can pick again. It's similar to 'a get out of jail free' card.
@TopDawg can explain it better.
if my understanding of your rule is correct you would still progress if your player retires, but I must admit I don't fully understand what you mean if "you're unsure of the outcome "?

Yeah for ATP SDL it is a get out of jail free card. If you lose you can pick again but it has to come from the same day's OOP.

And it's really nice posts like that made my nomination of you for 'most civil member' such a no-brainer.
People slate other people on this forum so often you rather become immune to it, and to actually read something that is so decent, well, thank you. And the humour is appreciated to. :)

Mission accomplished! Stephens, after winning Auckland, loses miserably to a qualifier and I exit with my near perfect record of opening day defeats intact.

Thank you Sloane!

a total of 35 signed up for AO, so far

Stephens out 9
Errani out 3

Day 1 is not even half way through, 1/3 already gone!:oops:o_O

With due respect, the Wozniacki match was always going to be tough. I thought she would scrape through but her opponent was a tough draw for her.
That said, I'm not sure there were any easy picks today, even Serena wasn't a given as she was playing such an unpredictable player.

I didn't watch the match but I did notice there were a lot of pauses on the live scoreboard, not sure who is "injured" here but it's not good for both players with so many MTOs in the first match.

Thought he was gonna follow the ATP's rule from TopDawg. Oh well, whatever.
I actually think @Boozyuzi rule is fairer given timezones - for example it's only 08:20am in the UK now. Tournaments in Europe would disadvantage those in the USA and further afield.

where is the Free Pass rule of ATP? my pick Paire lost too!
The atp free pass is for the person who wins the top 8 competition at the WTF.
I won it once and, ironically, had to use it almost immediately at the AO and the player that saved me (if memory serves) was Cilic coming back from 2 sets down. And Cilic saw me through today. He'll never be on my personal 'pick at your own risk' list. Sorry, but Paire has been on it since Paris a couple of years ago. He's way too flakey.

I read this thread, basically in ATP the FREE PASS means FREE to pick another one as the replacement, not so much a PASS. And like you said, the time zone could cause a lot trouble. If I do have a FREE PASS, the only option available is Tsonga/Baghdatis, the only match left on men's side.

Did you qualify for the top 8 in the atp sdl? And did you win it?
If the answer for either of the above is 'no' then you won't have a free pass. Sorry.

yeah, chose Tsonga a while ago, I did remember I have a free pass but can't find the thread to verify it
Topdawg will know.
looking at the atp sdl end of year results for you, brought back bitter memories - I was so close to ending up no,1 for the year..... :(

lol, I am very content in TOP 5, too much pressure to maintain # 1

Bit of a poor show so far..:)

The free pick rule is set at - You can use your 'free pick' to advance if your player loses or retires during their match. All free picks must be used before the last 16 of the grand slams or last 8 of other tournaments.

However, what should we do about the points ? My thought is that although you advance you only get the points if your next pick is correct. for example... @JJGUY can use his free pick today but he doesn't get 70 ponts only the opportunity to advance and then get 140 points (and so on until final) if he's correct with his next pick. If he get's his next pick wrong then he would score 0. He can't get 70 points for today as his player was defeated.

It's the same as the lucky loser rule in qualies/1st round.

Unreal, Petko is gone too. Second year in a row I'm out on first day because of a German!! Damn them.

Who would've thought id have been relying on Bouchard after the year she had! Haha well she got me through anyway!
Day 2: Cornet.

I'm starting to wander if some of us are getting paid to lose in this competition..

Only 11 players out of 31 survive day 1 + JJGuy using his free pick.
