Fantastic draw I must say.
Kerber is playing her first event since becoming the new number 1.
Muguruza is the 2nd seed following Serena's withdrawal.
Remainder of the seeds: Radwanska, Halep, Pliskova, Venus, Suarez Navarro, Keys, Kuzzy, Cibulkova, Konta, Bacsinszky, Vinci, Kvitova, Pavs and Stosur.
Withdrawals/absences include: Serena, Vika, Ivanovic, Bertens, Sloane, Vesnina and Bouchard.

Venus is the defending champion and Muguruza the defending finalist.
Hingis/Mirza were the defending doubles champs but Hingis now playing with Coco and Mirza with Strycova. Garcia/Mladenovic will be the top doubles seeds.

Brutal draw for Stosur, got promoted to a last minute seed thanks to Serena withdrawing and yet faces resurgent Caroline 1R.
Tough for Makarova as well, got Serena 1R at the USO, now has Lisicki 1R (not too tough) but Aga 2R. Aga known for loving the Asian leg of the tour.

Kind of hoping she is but who knows. Can't see her withdrawing from the tournament unless something happens in the final, but if she can back up a SF at the USO and then a title in Tokyo and do well at Wuhan, man i'd be so impressed with her. But my heart wants Stosur!

Please just move this WTA tournament back to Japan where it belongs. I was so disappointed when they took it away. I never liked this one. The brand new huge stadium with its rows of empty seats every year are so depressing. Tokyo just last week was so well attended by real fans who actually cared about the game. Li Na never produced the surge in tennis there the WTA, mainly a certain $$$tacey were hoping for. The tennis culture just isn't there.

The only good thing on court atm are Domi's always big energy firing away, and Cornet's naughty Frenchy charm
