I'd like and hope to see Rublev mature a bit. Everybody loves a good racquet smash, but sometimes it makes you look like a spoiled brat too. And the prolonged screams after he wins big points are a bit too Djokovic-esque for my liking. But this is just my opinion.

Angrey needs to control his temper or he'll break into rubble. But ... at least he didn't smash any racquets. Sascha would've smashed two or three.
 
Coach looks really happy and proud. Chung's father supposed to be a coach. Is that his father?

I believe this is the last year he qualifies for the tournament because he'll pass 21 next year. Sweet to win it in the 1st inaugural tournament and his last and only chance.

Remains to be seen whether he can surpass Nishikori's record. One step at a time ...

Poor boy. He looks so dispirited. Still hasn't conquered his demons this year (he talked about it at the USO, how he had to fight with himself since having some early success on the junior tour, winning the FO Junior). Maybe he should take Raonic's approach and try meditation or something. Still very flawed and a bit "one-dimentional" but I like him because he has heart and a potential FH.

Still, time is on his and all the youngsters' side. Looking forward to their improvements next year. :)

No. His father is not coach but I believe his parents are there.

It’s very special win for him. Undefeated and prove he can compete with anyone.
Beat number one seed twice for the tournament.

Nishkori has experienced coach and team in order to be successful in ATP tour.
If chung wants to be better and become best Asian tennis player ever, he needs entire team with tons of ATP experiences. Stop playing challenge tournaments and forget about his college.
Hope he will not waste his time since he has so much potential to be a top 10 player.
6’1 can have better serves (Brad said he think chung is taller 6’1 and probably 6’2 or even 6’3”). Some People criticize about his forehands but seems like he is working on it and slightly better than before. Height, movement, his calm personality/mental toughness are strong point for Chung.
Also he has Asian game gold medal (waived his military duty) for doubles so he is decent a net player too.

I can understand the feeling that the format was too rushed. I feel that way too. But I liked the singles court without the tramlines. It's sooo clear the target that they are aiming for, so more dramatic when it's just out.

I do like the shot clock. (Sugarpova, do you hear me???) I definitely like the automated line calls. (hey, we don't get to enjoy the suspense as we wait for the results of the Hawkeye, but we're eliminating the time arguing with the ump!)

Sounds ambitious but why not? Personally I much prefer Srichaphan's game but Chung has impressive mentality, work ethics, physique and game potentials, so who knows. :)

I think his net game definitely has potentials. Actually I like his volley and PS the best among the youngsters' games atm. Really want him to develop them more.

Then he didn't disappoint in this match (already thrashed "I want to play a certain mr Nadal" Zverev in R16 :D), where he's actually the calmer player in most of the 1st set and dealt with Rafa's game very well until the KOC adjusted his tactics. I started to really like him since this match, even though I can't say I'm a fan of his game or that game style in general:

Anyway, I wasn't surprised at all when he beat players like Shapo, Zverev, Rublev and of course Coric. They're just too frustrated to play him. :D Yes, I'm hearing people comparing him to Nishikori. I think he has more potentials than Glashi as well. Rafa is also full of praises for him. Still not my cup of tea game wise but I like him and mostly tennis needs players like him, especially being Asian IMO. Hopefully he can live up to his now less lowkey potentials. :)

That Wawrinka match at USO was when I noticed Chung's talent. He stood toe-to-toe and traded with Wawa as a teenager. The guy is not like the average Asian players. He has size and power on his strokes. He has shown the world he is the best of his age group(apart from Zverev), but he still has to step up and prove himself against the grown men. 2018 will be an important year to him.
 
I have not seen full matches for next gen tournament, only saw highlights but Looks like Chung had game plans.
pre-next gen matches, he just hit balls to opponent all the time and tried to overpower opponents and win points.
Much less game plan than now. It might work at challenger level but Mostly ATP players can adjust those balls.
During this tournaments, he hit much better directional balls to opponents from those highlights.
He did not hit many exact same pace and placement balls to opponents and his balls were penetrating and heavy.

BTW He can compete with Zverev ^_^
Maybe this tournament should start after WTF so everyone can participate.... wait then probably Chung might not be eligible to play the tournament hahaha.

I think there's an "art" to this racquet smashing routine. When the player REALLY wants to decimate it he'll whack the edge to the ground first. Otherwise, he seemed to slam the flat racquet surface to the ground instead of the edge. I love my racquets too much to attempt any of these two methods. :p

Oh, maybe there's a 3rd method. It's the Wawrinka style where he turns the racquet to pulp.:D

I saw Rublev making gesture of smashing the racquet, but he was slowing it down before it hit the ground. I really felt for him - it must be devastating - so close, yet so far. I'm sure he'll play better in the coming year - also hope he'll be more gracious to the winner next time. Great play by both.
 
Congrats to Chung on becoming the 1st NextGenner to win the NextGen ATP Finals which also happens to be his maiden ATP title (first by a Korean since 2003). What a debut to make! He is fast becoming a second model (after Nishikori) for aspiring young Asian players everywhere!!

It's unfortunate for him that he won't be able to defend his title next year as, by then, he will be too old!

Felt sorry for Rublev. Never seen a losing finalist look so completely p****d in all my life. He was unable to raise even the glimmer of a smile and could barely bring himself to mumble a few words in the post match interview. However, unlike Chung, he will still be young enough to get another opportunity next year!!

I believe Chung won over Zverev once in this year.
