2017 ATP Sudden Death League: AUSTRALIAN OPEN

I fear the Goffin may take out a few of us by knocking out the young artist.

Really happy to be back in the Semi here! Would love to win this tournament for a second time but I think I am an outsider as a lot of you have a much stronger path than me! Let's see what tomorrow brings :)

My first ever major SF!

I've honestly no clue how to progress now. Going to wait for the Nadal-Raonic result. I feel any of the last 4 could win the tournament, there's no clear route

No backup needed?
@Krish872007 im a little foggy on the backup picks. once in the semis I understand that you can advance is your picks opponent defaults (walkover). But if my primary pick would default would my pick revert to a backup?

I guess my specific question is if i would choose the nadal/grigor match, would a backup from the fed/stan match come into play if my nadal/grigor pick defaults?

Good question. @Krish872007, please tag me when you reply @winchestervatennis.

Yep, good question. I believe this has happened before - let me check previous instances and get back to you

I thought the rule was once you hit the SF stage you don't need a backup pick because you can advance via a walkover? or did that rule change?

and I think in the past the backup was used if available...assuming you had a pick left

Go that, thanks. But, what if your pick gives a walkover and you didn't choose a BU, even though you have picks available?

I don't remember but I'm thinking this did happen before and its why the backup system was introduced, I would just suggest name a backup with the pick, then you are covered? guess we need a ruling from the people in authority, cause heaven knows I'm just a peon haha

I picked Nadal,bu Federer anyway. I still have three picks left to choose from.

@Krish872007 now that I'm out and we're past that stage..

Can you please confirm if we can use Save picks at the last 16 in Grand Slams or should it be before the last 16 ? And whats the rule with nominating a player to burn ?

It's before the last 16 in the WTA SDL.

Save picks can be used in the Round of 16 (in the OP, I think I said "by the R16"). That'll be standardised across all events. If your pick loses, nominate a player to "burn". This player cannot be used in future picks.

Ok doki but that burn player could give someone a huge advantage in QF's.

Wow, decisions decisions. ;)

Only pick remaining - Rafa Nadal for the Semis and then I'm done.

Good luck everyone else, I'm glad to have made it this far given how many upsets there were.

@Pagoo and @winchestervatennis (and everyone else):

We had this situation arise in Vienna last year. Ferrer withdrew from the SF against Murray, so those who picked Murray were allowed to advance to the Final via a W/O.
One person picked Ferrer but also had a Back-Up pick (Tsonga). The BU then won, so he also proceeded to the final.

So just to clarify:
If your pick is the one receiving the W/O, you advance to the Final.
If your pick is the one giving the W/O, we will consider your Back-Up pick. You must specify the BU pick as far in advance as possible (ideally along with the main pick). You cannot use a BU after the withdrawal is announced, but it is difficult to know exactly when someone decided to pull out of a match.

I'm sticking to Stan for the SF. This is a win-win situation for me. If Roger wins, I'm gonna be happy for him. If he loses, I'm gonna be happy for me.:p
