2017 ATP Sudden Death League: AUSTRALIAN OPEN

UPDATED ATP RANKINGS

This was a great tournament with a lot of ranking changes, unpredictable outcomes and thrilling matches. Same number of Champions as last year, but a different set of people:

@winchestervatennis - 1st Slam title, ascends to Number 1
@Krish872007 - 1st Slam title, ascends to Number 2
@Pagoo - 1st Slam title and title #3
@sosa09 - 1st Slam title and title #2
@kishnabe - 1st Slam title and title #6
@Aussie Darcy - 1st Slam title and title #3 (first title since Basel 2015, also with Federer def. Nadal in the Final)
@luiz_gustavo - 1st Slam title and title #2
@The Green Mile - 1st Slam title and title #2
@T-Noone - Title #1 (which happens to be a Slam)
@Gonzo_style - 2nd Slam title, title #7 (first title since Wimbledon 2014)

The next full tournament will be Rotterdam.

The first round of the Davis Cup starts next week I think, so we will be putting up a thread for that shortly.

My single mistake was picking Nadal too early. Otherwise, I would've picked him in the semis and Federer in the final. But I had to pick Federer by default in the semi and was left with no picks for the final.

Still, reaching the final is a fine result to kick off the season,

Yep - will be up shortly

So I won a major and am number 6 in the rankings. Not bad. Maybe I can give you guys a run for the top spot. Still can't believe you saved Federer for last. Was that just a gamble, or you really thought he could pull it off?

Yep, you've done very well - I've got very little to defend until the clay season so I'll be targeting the top spot in that period, but any one of us in the top 10 has a real shot at it so it's getting exciting

As for the picks, I had a strategy coming into the 4th round which changed dramatically after Murray exited (I had him down as Champion). At that point, after the Nishikori-Federer match, I picked according to my belief that it would be a Fedal final, then in the semis I went against the H2H and really felt that he would get it done this time.
Quite a smooth run through as well - the only times I was in danger of losing were in the 5th sets of the SFs and the Final

Amazing what a little self-belief can do in sports. It still feels like a dream because it was totally unexpected. Federer laid a lot of demons to rest methinks.

I didn't want it to come out in a mean way. I love @I Am Finnish. She's possibly the best poster on here. Never seen her argue with anyone
