G'day all, hope you're feeling suitably rested and refreshed for the new season :)

Welcome to the 1st event of the 2017 ATP Sudden Death League season:

Brisbane International
ATP 250 Event
1 - 8 January, 2017
Outdoor Synthetic Hardcourt

This is our first event of the "Aussie Swing", and we feel it would be a good opportunity to get into the swing of things and be reasonably consistent with in terms of coordinating across time zones heading into the Australian Open in mid-January.

RULES (ATP 250 Event):

1. You pick one player who you think is going to win. It's a knock out-system: if the player you picked wins, you're through to the next round. If he loses, you're out.

2. You make pick one player per round

3. You can pick a player only ONCE in the tournament. Obviously it's important to make smart choices in order to get far. If you have no picks remaining, you're eliminated from the competition.

4. You can't pick a player from a match that has started already.

5. You cannot advance to the next round via a walkover since it is hard to know exactly when someone announced they were pulling out; HOWEVER, this rule does not apply once you reach the semifinals

6. Since you can no longer win a match by a walkover it is highly advised that you make a back-up pick to your main pick - when listing your picks make sure you specify which is your back-up.

7. If the player you picked retires during the match, you're out. If he retires before the match, your back-up pick will be used.

8. If the opponent of the person you picked withdraws and is replaced by a lucky loser your original pick will stand unless you specifically change it.

9. NEVER edit your pick. If you want to change your pick, please quote your old pick and choose a new player. Edited posts will not be taken into consideration.

SCORES FOR TOURNAMENT:
1 correct pick (R1): 30
2 correct picks (R2): 60
3 correct picks (QF): 100
4 correct picks (SF): 150
WINNER: 250

ATP RANKINGS (Beginning of Year)

I am still updating parts of the spreadsheet and am looking to compile a Weeks at #1 stat if possible.

SAVE PICKS:

The following players have Save Picks remaining. Save Picks are valid to use at any time throughout the 2017 SDL Season (except at the World Tour Finals), but must be used by the Round of 16 in Slams/Major Tournaments or by the Quarter-Finals in other tournaments:

@JJGUY - 2 x Save Picks
@kvejkr, @winchestervatennis, @Krish872007 and @Boozyuzi - 1 x Save Pick each.

What is a save pick?

What is a save pick?

You can use your Save Pick to advance if your player loses or retires during their match. The pick can be made in retrospect - for instance, say you pick Tsonga in a given tournament, but see that he's losing his match or has just lost. You can ask for him to be replaced with another player who has already won his match and thus progress to the next round/day.

So its not just a free advance, you have to burn a player that advanced? Sorry for the questions, just the first I heard of the save pick.

No worries - I think that's correct. The player you choose to advance with counts as your pick and you can't use them later in the tournament
