This is so true and it's why i feel people don't give the Big 4 enough credit. Outside of themselfs, the top 10 during that generation was filled with very strong players. If matches like this Goffin and Thiem match is the future of tennis then i am very tempted to give up watching the sport completely. Jack Sock has honestly been the best thing about the WTF this year and i never thought i would say that last week.
I generally perceived Jack Sock as boring, but his style of play is actually quite entertaining, especially since he mixes up net play there on a consistent basis, which is a rarity these days.

I'm partial to one-handers so I really want to like Thiem's game but he just doesn't do it for me. He's an extremely poor man's Wawrinka.
He's so much worse than Wawrinka on hard courts that it's not even funny. But to be fair, it took Stan a lot of years to develop into a Grand Slam winner. I don't know if Thiem has the capability to do that though, but maybe.

If Goffin has this much tr
Well done Goffin. I can't even with this Thiem. After the beat-down Goffin received on Tuesday, you'd think Thiem would fancy his chances, instead he plays like an absolute moron.

Thiem hadn’t been playing so great himself and his chances against Goffin have nothing to do how Goffin lost to Dimitrov. Dimitrov is playing with more confidence and better HC player than Thiem. Thiem was just the doctor ordered for Goffin. Low on confidence and clueless on HCs.

The current era of Tennis is so weak compared to the past. It was only because federer was so good that he made the guys in his generation look weaker. But if you go back and watch highlights and matches from back then you’ll see that players were mountains higher than the current players in this gen.

I couldn't agree more. It's rare that I watch a match of either Thiem or Goffin, but neither belongs in the WTF. In the past, you had fields of truly great players like Lendl, Mac, Becker, Edberg, Mats, Andre, etc. This field is pathetic with the exception of Fed. At least Sock has a quirky game with some variety, I hope he makes the final.

The Fed BH flicks on full stretch and the rallies like the one you see between Fed and Hewitt at IW 2005 was like the standard for what was considered to be good. You rarely ever see stuff like that nowadays if even. We were all spoiled by Tennis from the past.

Well guys, i originally picked a straight sets win for Goffin, until i saw he appeared injured and uninterested vs Dimitrov.

Yet Thiem somehow still got whopped by him. How??

Moral of the story; don't go against your instincts, and never count on Thiem outside of clay.

When he’s not completely got his head up his a—, yes, I enjoy his physical warrior working class style, and I USED to think he was mentally strong. But it appears more and more to me he’s just phoning it in.

Regardless of circumstances, you don’t do some of the things he’s done without being very skilled. But he has regressed and is like a huge disfigured lump of clay.

I never saw Thiem as mentally strong. In his four biggest claycourt matches (two FO semis, a Rome Semi and a Madrid final) he won zero sets. Those French Open semis he was beaten before the warm up started. And that USO loss was the worst collapse of the year.

Mentally strong characters never know when they're beaten ;)

Yeah I’m definitely seeing that now. A shame that the likable guys under 26 aren’t as good as the jerks.

If not for Nadal withdrawing, my prediction would have been true and Thiem would have lost all three matches. This guy stinks outside clay. What a mess

Freaking Thiem...

Maybe he should hire a new coach, or add another coach (?)
I'm coming around to that thinking with haste. Somehow he won the PCB match despite making all the wrong moves the last two sets. Magnus Magnus Norman has left Wawrinka for time with his family, but thinking Thiem should try to snag him for clay season or a good a part of it. Magnus Norman has been TTW Thiem fans' consensus for some time now.:p

LOLOLOLLOLOLOL

Perhaps he was referring to Kiki
The way he played today looks like he took that advice. Thiem in 2017 has been fighting becoming a mental basket case. LOL if he takes that baggage into early next year.

I remember so well his great match with Dimitrov in Brisbane. They've both had a smashing year despite some setbacks.

He should do what Raonic did last year in Wimbledon lol.

He should hire Norman, Wilander and Melzer for the French Open
