Not sure how this is going to go, Zverev looks tired but Cilic was far from impressive in Paris a few days ago...

No TV coverage for me. Frustrating.

Would anyone be kind to please post a stream link or something.

Seriously, this is not gonna look like a match between top 10 players, but Zverev should have an edge cause he just should have a lower error rate than Cilic

Brutal grinding rally already, seems like Zverev is dictating here...

my kind of match!

baseline bliss!

to beat AZ you have to disrupt his rhythm and make him move forward not on his on terms. don't know if Cilic can do that consistently...

also AZ moves as well as Cilic does.

Zevrev is looking very good out there. He has come to play some ball today. Cilic doesn't look like he is settled in at the moment.

This is a bad matchup for Cilic. Zverev has enough depth to keep Marin from lighting him up from the ground and Zverev can really grind when he wants to. Zverev also can hit through Cilic some and get back some of those big first serves. Against a speedier player Zverev has a much harder time with winners. Cilic 0-2 versus Sock to boot so he really needs to win this.

It is good to see the level of maturity develop in Zverev's game this past season. He really has come a long way from where he was just 12 months ago.

Shapovalov should take one look at Zverev playing right now and immediately decide he's gonna learn a good slice backhand

True. This is a big occasion and it is nice to see him stepping up to it.

I can see Cilic sinking his teeth a bit more into the match now.
ZVerev has wayyyy too many problems with any player that stalls his point construction. Cilic started terrible but is finding his groove slowly.

I think that it's been a bit of a discovery for the ATP Tour that junkballing Zverev, especially to the forehand actually is a bit of a weakness of his

I agree. This forehand is a liability for sure.

I've seen this from Zverev all too often in the last month:rolleyes:; he's there for the taking if Ciic wants this.

It's really weird, cause he takes a big swing, needs a lot of time, and still has trouble generating pace. It just looks out of phase to me or something like that. Not enough hip/body rotation, all arm and therefor just skipping part of the kinetic chain and reducing the lasso effect you can get. Sock generates twice the RHS in half the time.

Seriously, we have a youngster running around his forehand. He's not gonna dominate.

He's like an inverse Del Potro. Go to forehand at all costs.

I guess depends a lot on when The Shapster and others mature to take over.

I really believe Shapovalov has a lot more upside, but he's super erratic right now and he just makes too many errors vs basically everyone which screws him over against good opponents. What's really great about Shapo is that he really takes the ball early and can force initiative vs almost anyone, and he's got a good transition game already. Good athlete, backhand holds up well enough for where he is, but I suspect his backhand is a liability on clay, and he needs to learn a slice to slow the point down and improve his defense by a lot. He's also a pretty dominant server for his height, but I think he could do with some extra mileage. Return needs work.

Shapo could be the entire package. Zverev misses the most important shot in the game, and his serve isn't good enough for his height.

Agree on all your points. I know I will be cheering Shaps as my top guy once Djokovic retires. His game is box office in my eyes, but he needs to tighten it up.

As long as he gets rid of the oversized cap, and that ridiculous basketbal bounce before the serve, as well as stops decapitating umpires, he may win all the Slam dinner plates he desires. I've invested in the Rublev Oligarchy

I think it's just a phase. The raw potential is crazy in him.
