Lol, Federer is 16 years older, had a much harder season and doesn't look tired at all.

It's called not being conditioned through the years. Federer's body despite being older is much used to trials and tribulations of the long season. It is a shock to system for someone as inexperienced as Zverev, this has been his big true taste of hanging with the big boys. All part of the learning process, by the time he is in his full prime, he will be fine.

Zverev has also played an absurd amount of doubles.

Zverev badly needed to hold his serve there. This allows him to serve first in this set.

Massive hitting from Cilic

Takes the second set! We are going the distance. Nice! :)

Oh that wild forehand by Zverev, really. Otherwise he had the shot. At 30-40, I mean come on Zverev.

Zverev is more hype than anything else. I am still waiting for a decent show in a Slam

Cilic has played really well from what I have watched until now

Match going exactly the way Fed would have liked.

3 setter, Cilic next which should be fairly comfortable since he is more used to him .

Zverev mostly out of the tournament after this .may even lose to Sock.

The new generation remains on the same level. I mean, you can beat Federer and Djokovic (not the best ever versions, but still) in masters final but can't beat Cilic? Zverev is pretty much the same as Kyrgios who can challenge the big three on a regular basis but lost to Dimitrov in Cincinnati final. There is a feeling these guys care more about beating a top player than about actually winning big titles.

And Nadal's draw now looking much tougher now...potentially having to go through Zverev and Federer in the KO rounds.

That's new! Well done Zed-bot, took some balls to turn that match around and he sneaks through in the end. Good debut at the tour finals. Federer up next.

Zverev versus a known quantity; will he measure up once again?

Interesting choice of match thread photo. Looks a video still from the Shanghai match, where Cilic lost a bit of a frustrating one, hence the drive-by handshake :o

Excellent comment. Someone asked me earlier in the year how 30+ Nadal could last longer than the younger Zverev. I said "Two words: muscle maturity"

Genie doffs her hat to him too

Are they dating? What's the scuttlebutt?
