Nadal hitting some great shots, but... Seriously, some serious choking from Goffin in this match. I hope he wins to redeem it all, otherwise he's going to see himself as a prize mug.

Even if Nadal wins he should pull out. He is too injured to win the tournament, so it would be a selfish move to go into the semis instead of someone who could genuinely have a chance at winning.
 
Lol. Hit and hope shots, and all got in. Still expect Goffin to take the tie break, just like in the first set. But who knows.
 
Has to be said, the quality may not be the best, but Nadal going berserk and saving all these matchpoints going for broke is entertaining AF.

Seriously Nadal is so bogged down right now all goffin has to do is hit some rally balls back down the line instead of cross court... Nadal is just anticipating every rally ball coming back across the court... he barely has to move
 
Goffin looks like he is going to cry.
Not sure how a third set is good for any of those players...unless Nadal can manage a 6-0 or 6-1 in twenty minutes or something

No way! Rafa Nadal literally steals the 2nd set from under Goffin's nose. Feels like he'll withdraw after this match is done, so he's looking to at least end his amazing season on a high with a hard-fought, scrappy win.

Last few games against Davydenko in 2007 Rome SF, last few games against Murray in Rome 2014, the fifth set against Novak at Roland Garros 2013...people usually say that his opponent choked, but it was he who raised his game and became ultra aggressive and neither of his opponents could match it.
 
What does it say that when Nadal had a second serve there, having won 44% all set, I knew he had a 100% chance of winning the point?
 
Lol, I can't stop laughing. If Nadal somehow wins this match...I don't believe in it though. If he can win by playing like that...
 
Rafa's using the slice pretty effectively. I think that will make the difference in the 3rd set.
 
Nadal's backhand looking so sweet right now. He is looking much more confident.
 
Goffin has certainly choked at times, but I actually don't think that's the story of this match. He's battled past his 2 serious chokes in this match, Nadal has just been ridiculous when down MPs. Essentially, Goffin is not getting that last slice of luck that he needs, which is a Nadal miss on MP.

First MP was a huge choke. The 0-40 ones were all good points by Nadal, including that rocket backhand
 
God I hope Rafa faces Roger, he'll get destroyed and it'll be 5-0 and the ever so important H2H stats will become less skewed ;)
 
Goffin still looks like the better player, even now. Nadal, if you forced a third set then please try.............

It must suck for Federer sometimes this year, having literally no-one else to pick up some slack for him with Nadal occasionally. Everyone else just lies down for Rafa or can't close, so it always falls to 36yo Fed to do the job. And he can't play a full calendar at this level any more, so whenever he's not there Nadal gets the trophy, unchallenged.
 
Early break. I am not surprised, after all the energy that was used to win that second set. Nadal is moving better now than when he was at the start of the match imo. Now lets see if Goffin can hold his nerve, because Nadal is going to come back at him for sure.
 
More unforced errors and Nadal loses his serve. Even after saving the second set like that he still cannot take advantage of the match and Goffin still looks better. You know, Goffin will not choke forever. Maybe this time he will hold it. Say whatever you want, Nadal is just not in form.
 
There are two things keeping Nadal in this match. 1. Goffins errors and lousy junk balls... 2. Nadals bazooka groundstrokes using said junk balls as ammo.

Goffin needs some serious mental couching. How hard is it to run Nadal around? Goffin IS very good at defense and running people around, but time and time again his brain implodes and he gos from Ferrer-esque to Tomic-esque real quick.

It's not as easy as it looks to just "run Nadal around." If it was easy, you or I would be doing it.
 
Come on, Goffin, finish him this time. Nadal doesn't deserve to win. Imagine Federer saving 4 matchpoints to force a decider. He wins the decider 6-0. Nadal on the other hand can't take advantage of the match and his choker opponent still outplays him. Painful to see Nadal playing like that.
 
Nadal pulling the trigger too early on some balls in this game.

Nadal surrenders another break, and Goffin has the insurance break. Surely, this will be it. It's actually been quite entertaining, even if the quality has been trash.

That's it. Wasted all people's time to win the second set, just to be destroyed in the third. Pathetic performance for the so called world number one. Hope he withdraws now.
Congratz to Goffin, well deserved win. Not his fault his opponent has no idea how to play indoors.
 
Ok 4-1 up. If Goffin manages to choke again then he will surely go into running for Choke of the year vs. US Open Thiem
