Stan scrapes through. Well done, perhaps the Diesel has started warming up.

As for Roger, this is truly awful. The silver lining is he really can't play much worse, but it seems that he is going to have to servebot all his games to even stand a chance of winning. A match. Against anyone...

How is Wawrinka to know that Klizan would do something as stupid as give up on that point? Wawrinka had a short forehand that he was worried Klizan could guess the right way and stab for a winner. Klizan should have been fully aware that the ball's in play, the point's live and there's every chance it's going right through him.

Most players don't stand flat footed when they're prey at the net...can you watch your opponent at the same time you're hitting the ball to see if he's a statue instead of guessing which way to move???

It seems Federer is feeling the pressure of a slam comeback. He looked much quicker, smoother and took the ball much earlier on the rise last week in Perth. I hope and believe he will get better each round.

Body language. You you can safely crush it without harming the opponent. That was not a fake and bake.

Damn, Melzer with a slice backhand cross-court pass brings up 2 BPs.

The drop volley not good enough, and Melzer runs it down and passes him again. Melzer serving for the 2nd set.

As I said pre tournament fed is not ready for a deep slam run. I think he will lose to Berdych if he evens survives his 2 qualies. I thought he could beat Berdych but watching him now there isn't much chance.

Stan had plenty of time. Not saying it's an illegitimate shot, but he could have placed that anywhere and he knew full well what Klizan was doing. it was unnecessary.

Stan is quite infamous for missing sitters, and at such a crucial stage of the match, it was obviously the safest play. It just looked worse than normal because Klizan had given up, and it actually hit him.

How is Wawrinka to know what Klizan is thinking? That was a vital point, Klizan's shot went high, which gave Klizan an opportunity to take a competitive court position, which every other player ever to play the game at that level would have done. Instead...Klizan walks slowly towards the net, Wawrinka's watching the ball which he intends to absolutely crush because of the importance of the point, and Klizan's dopily not defending himself.

Berdych might finally get a win if Federer escapes this match and reaches R3. Still won't be a Top 10 win for the Big Berd though, so that losing streak will continue :D

There's absolutely no way Wawrinka could know Klizan would not compete while the ball is live. Why had Klizan conceded the point with a live ball?

1 set all. Good comeback from Melzer for a minute there it looked like he had hit the land of no return but suddenly the Fed express derailed.

Just in after the incredible Stan-Klizan match.

This looks like a practise set in comparison. This Federer can´t possibly beat Berdych... or can he? :eek:

He shouldn't have quit on the point, but it was because he knew Stan was going to put that ball away.
