If that's the case....once you're down match point on your own serve....you could just bounce the ball for the rest of your life. Surely the serve starts with a ball toss you intend to hit...and Djokovic should have been given a warning.

True. Very true. However, you do get thirty seconds to begin a point, and seconds feel longer right before a serve.

I agree if it is the first serve. However, I think someone said there is no time limit between first and second serve.

I'm so pissed, I heard Novak was losing and just got home and turned it on 10 min ago to watch him tear back from SP down to win the set! I just want to watch him lose! Is that so much to ask

The problem is that the returner is crouched in an uncomfortable position, while Djokovic just bounces, and bounces, and bounces......the longer they hold the position the less dynamic their movement out of it. The returner should just walk away and start speaking very aggressively to the umpire about the (il?)legality of the tactics from the other end of the court.

This game is not good for Djokovic

1) He doesn't want to raise his level this early in the tournament. He had to raise it, in the 2nd set to beat Verdasco, and now Istomin.
2) Taking way to long on the court, compared to his other top 10 opponents.
3) Slimming down so much, he will lose muscle mass after long matches.

Go watch some highlights from 2012-2014. Nadal and Fed beat him many times then.

But still, if they didn't call it, he didn't spend that much time. It couldn't've been more than 10 seconds- and if you are quick to get into position, you can take that much time to serve. Not saying it's morally justified- it's just legal.
