If ARV didn't like his diet of heavy spin in the Monte Carlo final he's in for a Ruud Awakening in Barcelona. Ruud has won over 60% of his points in three matches in Barcelona. This match will be Wednesday and Ruud will be rested unlike his near miss with PCB in Rio (got one MP on fumes in the 2nd set.) ARV will have to gather his wits quickly for this one.

Ruud is a young 18 with an impossibly heavy and hard forehand along with an excellent first and second serve on clay. Return had been an issue in Rio, but team Ruud has got him going in Barcelona with a whopping 53.0% return points won in three matches.

Ruud just looked impossibly good today taking out 81 ranked Radu Albot 6-2, 6-2. If ARV lets him dictate with his forehand he's going down. This match will be very much about ARV staying away from the Ruud forehand or hitting really hard at it (something he can do.) If ARV does not find the Ruud backhand on 2nd serve, the Ruud forehand will quickly have him on the defensive.

Hope Ruud wins. Ramos is useless.
He sure was in the final versus Rafa; needed medical attention for near cramping or something after getting smoked badly in the first set. His play in the rest of the tournament was excellent including coming back from 4-0 down against Murray in the 3rd set. If Ruud can keep the pressure on ARV he might cough up quite a few UEs.

Ok, I knew Murray lost the match but I didn't see it. Losing in that way makes it even worse. What the hell was Murray doing?

Hmmm playing a tournament with 3/4 of a serve. He clearly wants to win RG badly and had the medical go head for Monte Carlo. Now he's wild carded to Barcelona so its pretty clear his desire. Without a full serve, he's basically not Clayray of the last two years and much the player who made a couple RG SFs with his speed, but no real shot. ARV pretty much earned it which is why I mention that other than Nadal match he's in phenomenal form.

THE CURRENT MATCH IS A HUMGDINGER AND NOT TO BE MISSED. ARV was treeing at Monte Carlo and now Ruud is here.

I'll stick with ARV in 3. Didn't he win like 3 consecutive matches in MC in 3 sets - Came back from 4-0 down against Muzza in the 3rd set, beat Cilic in 3 sets, and then beat Pouille 6-1 in the 3rd set, with perhaps a Pouille bit of luck, with Lucas getting injured early in that 3rd set.

Really disrespectful and ignorant comment, especially about a guy who just reached a Masters 1000 final and beat the world #1 en route to doing so.

He was useless in the final. And he would still have been useless even if he had played well. Top 50 level game, nothing more, nothing special.

And Murray is hardly playing like the number 1, so that argument doesn't count.

Well this is what happens when you don't watch ARV's other tournament matches and the guy is ill in the final. You pretty much can't take away much about Rafa either since that debacle of a call all through the final other than that on clay he's great at beating up on players way off their game. This sounds exactly like the foolishness visited on Thiem for his RG SF with Nole after which Thiem won a tournament on grass of all things beating Federer along the way.

This will be the highest ranked player Ruud ever played.
Let's check where Ruud resides in some stats:
Service Games won on clay - Ruud is at 84% right there with Thiem and Cuevas among serious clay courters (16-18), but behind Coric at 88%, Dolgo 87%. Nadal sits at 80% (37).
First serve percentage - Ruud is at 13 with 65%, PCB is at 69%, Rafa 67%
First serve points won - Ruud is at a fine 72% (37th), Struff has 77%, Cuevas 76%, Almagro 74%, Lorenzi 73%, Vesely 73%, Thiem 72%, Coric 71%, Nadal 69% (54th)
Second serve points won - a more telling stat for seperating out non-clay courters with Ruud at just 52% (33rd), Escobedo leads at 62%, Nadal 61%, Goffin 59%, Thiem 58%

(Note first serve is a much bigger deal for serious clay courters as around 2/3rd of their serves are first serves. Ruud has a very potent combination of high percentage and high first serve points won that rival's Nadal and his serve games won at an excellent 84% is one of the best among serious clay courters)

As you know Ruud's return stats have been a horror that is why it is amazing that in 3 matches at Barcelona Ruud has won 53.0% of return points and has broken his opponents in 15/23 games (around 66%). Ruud would be scary good if he was breaking 33% of the time, so let's hope he now has a decent clay return game.:D

Do you think the fairytale "Thiem beat Fed on grass " was overused so much?

Only by me.;) Thiem won Stutgart with a mountain of double faults. He had great play at Halle too, before the first signs of physical demise started to really show (his 7th straight tournament.) Federer will still be quite beatable on grass, don't delude yourself like Fed. He's quite viable at Wimbledon, but age has taken his return game down a lot on grass (but not hard courts).

Really looking forward to this Ruud match.:p
