Kyle and the Umpire having a dispute about a call. Describes it nicely, but Kyle still not convinced.
This is far from over despite the score.Time for Thiem to make a run I reckon. Clay is his domain. Looking at this draw he really should be getting to that SF matchup with Murray.
The compliment ace down the T. savesThiem kick serve comes to his aid. Saves the BP.
Thiem loving that backhand return of Kyle's right now. Adv Thiem.
This is the difference from the Thiem of last year on clay; Thiem is just much more resilient on serve.Brilliant defensive slice from Thiem, Kyle's volley drifts just long. Adv Thiem.
Great hold from Thiem, saving BPs again. Leads 4-2.
That is such an asset. One of the problems with Goffin matchup is the ad side for Thiem, so having his serve clicking today a nice difference.Solid win for Thiem. 6/1 6/4. Must have hardly lost a point whilst serving on the ad side.
I like seeing Thiem win 43% of first return points. Key stat for him in this match.
Thiem is out of the gates nicely in Barcelona taking out a game Edmund. If Thiem had not been playing well, Edmund takes this match. Edmund says he loves clay. If so, he should really play even more. The extra time really allows Kyle to hit his groundies. Just a bit more seasoning and he'd be very tough.
He says its his favorite surface, so perhaps he should be vulturing in SA and in July? Despite the score, feel he's not far away. The Nadal three setter was no fluke. That forehand can hunt on clay.Edmund really announced himself in 2015 Davis Cup final, he had won a challenger on clay shortly before and he was put in for the first singles rubber against Goffin - took the opening 2 sets before losing in 5.
A quick De-Thiemation of the draw followed by a De-Melesisation of TTW would be a fantastic result.

Especially the latter!A quick De-Thiemation of the draw followed by a De-Melesisation of TTW would be a fantastic result.
Especially true on clay where a small edge can get holds and many breaks. Its one of the things that stops clay from being a grueling surface as often their a lopsided sets in a match. No shame whatsoever for Edmund in the first.Maybe, something to consider for sure. Though to be frank I can understand why the early clay events in SA wouldn't really apply to him
Tennis can be cruel, you lose the big points and the score can look ugly, despite being relatively close in rallies and making chances.
One of the many meanings possible with this title. Intent was would Thiem show up and play a good clay match out of the gate. Could also be taken as Thiem to be put out by Edmund. And then of course your mind can be in the gutter.Lol,at first I thought it's "Thiem to come out"
