Perhaps the best field on clay this week with Zeballos, Verdasco, and Ferrer rounding out the seeds. Gulbis, Dolgo, and Basilashvili round out a blessedly Federer free field on clay.:p

Its a nice field indeed! Ymer brothers too.
There is an oldie competetion France vs Sweden. Wilander among many others and Bjørn Borg coaching.
For those of you living not so far from venue they have good prices and youth prices too. So a more fun audience than gereatric Wimbledon. Im trying to get off work and go there end of week.

Peter Lundgren (formerly with Rios, Fed, Stan, and Safin) has taken on Mikael Ymer as his latest protege.

18 year old Ymer breaks again for 5-4. Ymer has just started playing a full challenger schedule this late Spring.

Ymer has racquet tantrum and warning after losing breaker narrowly 7-5. Can't hold serve to save his life.

LOL Ymer was having a tantrum because Laaksonen's tantrum wasn't big enough to get a point penalty.

Mikael has some really excellent qualities, but is doomed by atrocious serving and lack of power — kozlov syndrome.

Laaksonen ekes it out, 6 and 5..

Hmm... I'm considering going tomorrow just to see Haas before he retires. Problem is just that it's 4AM right now which will leave me with like 5 hours of sleep before I have to catch the train (he plays at 11), and that the ground pass is a tad too expensive.

True, but he moves considerably better than Kozlov, and has better technique. Kozlov takes the ball earlier and hits flatter.

But the serve might be even worse! It's very worrisome he hasn't improved it since juniors.
Maybe Lundgren will help with that... Thanks @Meles for the tip on that partnership

Dolgo is playing on an outside court today against Leo Mayer which is somewhat surprising to me.

I'll take some photos as the day goes on and maybe give some impressions as the field today is actually very good!

Fighter jets flying by while Brown was serving which is appropriate as he's dropping bombs right now.

Mikael has just really started playing full time and he did well enough in this match which had a lot of long, long rallies. He's got plenty of time to get stronger, so the serve is bound to improve. The amount he broke in this match was impressive. And I'd swear the hold for 2-1 in the 2nd took 30 minutes (I literally got bored and was not watching the game and came back and it was still going on.) Commie must have been comatose because no comment (probably fell asleep lol). When the serve comes Mikael will be a force.

This is the problem with evaluating young players these days; we just don't know what their physical capabilities will be by 21, 22, even 24. Mikael's serve is not getting better over night. This will take a long time and may never happen.:(

    Ernesto breaks for 4-6, 5-3:p

Gulbis annoyed by sounds from playground or something nearby. Kid balling for over five minutes. Still lots of high pitched yelling in background; probably on nearby beach.

In case anyone was wondering after Gulbis beat Delpo at Wimbledon; his form here in 2nd is an absolute joy to watch. He's back and playing like a top 20 player.:p We'll see if his consistency holds up.

Not easy to come from CC grass to clay and Sweden all of a sudden for Gulbis!

Blame the organizers for not putting Gulbis on centre. I would have put this on centre over Ferrer vs Delbonis for sure especially after that Delpo domination. Gulbis is a better player than Ferrer. Way more entertaining to watch.o_O

Absolutely crazy he is not on CC. Its not very hard to be a more entertaining player than Ferrer ;) Gulbis is one of the most entertaining players on the tour. Really up there.

Yeah, some swedish guys saying Lets Go Gulbis Lets go!! (can hear from their accent) Hope its the guy in this thread!!
So Wish I can go. Next year I want to only go to 500 tournaments and maybe even 250. Slams are fun, but a bit fed up w the big stadiums, all the fake tennis fans and queuing everywhere.

Wonder what Gulbis further plan is. Right now he is stacking up points so he can play bigger tournaments? USA/Canada will not give him WC?

De Greef returns favor with DF and a code violation. Stupid ball kids bumbling around probably caused that.

    Wow, no one is watching.

A small tournament on clay i love is Nice. He played there on a really beautiful day there. Its in The Provance district of France, not far from St Tropez. Its so nice there. And cheap flights within Europe. Its better than many big ones i.m.o. Hot tip to Europeans out there±!
