Been a while since i've done a thread for an ATP tournament but here goes!

2017 Chengdu Open is on this week.

Seeded players are: Thiem, Ramos, Khachanov, Rublev, Sugita, Edmund, Troicki, Leo Mayer.

Decent unseeded players: Coric, Baghdatis, Pospisil and Istomin.

Khachanov is the defending champ and Ramos is the defending finalist.

Also contesting this event is Tomic who's playing just his 2nd tournament since that Wimbledon controversy. He's plummeted over 100 ranking spots this year. Just scraped into the main draw thanks to a withdrawal, was set to play qualifying.

So, who will win?

the other tournament this coming week, the Zverev brothers could play in the semis...weak field, so possible

Thiem and Zverev on the prowl this week as they both stand to gain some good ranking points with Thiem gaining points for SF or more and Zverev will need a final or better.

Chengdu's draw loaded with NextGen so it's going to be a good one:
1. Thiem could easily go down to Coric in round 2 as Coric won in their Miami encounter
2. Rublev or Mikael Ymer (younger Ymer) could come through for SF with Thiem or Coric
3. Tsitsipas, Donaldson, Edmund, and Khachanov load up the top quarter of the bottom half.:p

This is the SF that destiny calls for:

It's crazy and naive of me to think Tomic has a shot at winning tonight and going deep but i'm still going to watch his match in about 3 hours time. Will be interesting to see if this plummet out of the top 120 has motivated him to actually try to win matches or if he's just going to tank. He needs a good run this week and at the two remaining ATP500's where he gets direct entry to get back inside the top 100. Otherwise, it'll be challengers for him for in 2018 and I don't know how he'll handle that.

Tomic holds. Up 2-1. Really needs to break Edmund, hasn't made much impact so far. If his serving holds up, he can just servebot his way to a 3rd set with the one break, like Edmund did in the 1st.

Big serving by Kyle and he saves two break points and holds for 4-2 in the 2nd.

Edmund too strong for Tomic. Bernard serving well and running rather well but too many unforced errors and too passive with the play.

Coric is out :( (vs Pella. And Pella and Coric playing doubles tomorrow :))
Ymer is out :(

KK on court tomorrow. Have no clue about the time difference.

WTA-like score line to Edmund vs Donaldson...JD bakes a bagel, KE says, "Try a breadstick!" Now the bakers are on serve halfway through the third.

... and in shenzhen, is zhang the first player from PRC to reach a QF on the ATP tour ?

Waiting to see (ok, hear about) results for Rublev, Fritz and Thiem to finish out R2.
Just got back from California and well I may just have to imagine I'm in the Orient for the next few weeks and then move onto Europe. This is going to be rough with all this talent ready to break through.:D
