Aegon International Jim,james,jimster

26 June - 1 July 2017
After a three year break, this year sees the men’s ATP Tour return the Aegon international to join the WTA event, promising even more tennis action.

The tournament traditionally attracts some of the most famous names from the men and women’s game, with Andy Roddick, Feliciano Lopez, Kim Clijsters and Martina Navratilova among famous past champions.

Last year’s winner was World Top 10 player Dominika Cibulkova, who impressively won her first ever grass final beating Karolina Pliskova.

The tournament also typically boasts a strong British contingent and this year will see top British players Johanna Konta, Dan Evans and Kyle Edmund set to play to the delight of the home crowd.

Devonshire Park
Just yards from the beautiful seafront, Devonshire Park is Eastbourne’s oldest park. The idyllic setting provides the perfect summer backdrop for a week of world-class tennis ahead of Wimbledon. With tennis fans and players mingling in close quarters this tournament remains a favourite in the British tennis calendar.

Nottingham is not on the ATP world tour schedule==moved to Eastbourne

  • "Aegon International Eastbourne" has had the same name in 2016 and 2017
  • "Aegon Open Nottingham" has had the same name in 2016 and 2017
They are two different and ongoing tournaments, which is made very clear in the website.

Eastbourne's defending champion on the men's side is technically Feliciano Lopez, who last won it in 2014

Look it up Ageon International 2016 champion was Stevie Johnson: link below, same one here.

Lopez won this 2013-2014.

Anyway, the way the ATP cobbles together two events is wrong IMO. It was held in Nottingham and then Eastbourne and then Nottingam and then Eastbourne again, but the Nottingham event still existed in some fashion most of the time?

This is bad and messing with my OCD

In the final tiebreak Monfils was up two minibreaks and lost one because he tried to hit an easy overhead smash *LEFT HANDED.* I am not making this up.

Lol. I saw the final tiebreak and hadn't even noticed Monfils hit that one lefthanded. Typical Monfils, doing a clownshot at an important moment.

TBF, Monfils in a final is like a bye. Isn't he like 5-40 or something in finals? If he played Benneteau my money would be on Julien.:D

No need for anyone to get worked up.
It depends. In Monte Carlo 2016 he played very seriously. Nadal had to work for every point from start to end. 30 shots was a normal rally there. But today it looks like Monfils decided to play differently-too aggressive.

Um, didn't Nadal bagel him in the third?

He has serve well but he's facing clownfils!
Just shades of 2012-2014. His first serve looks about like last Spring maybe better (still lower velocity). 2012-2014 had more velocity on first serves. The Becker inspired 2nd serve of 2015 Wimbledon is very shaky; Nole will hit it some of the time at Eastbourne, but also some high DF counts in matches. As I think about it that 2nd serve could come back pretty quickly with enough play. It doesn't involve footwork and other nuances; just the mind to hit it and a bit of practice.
