That's another way of saying that the match as a match was a dud: it never caught fire and was never interesting. And that's accurate.
Is this you, Bart ? :D

I'm having a wonderful day and reading the butthurt comments from the haters is just as sweet.
Whenever I am in a bad mood, I watch any of the network coverage of the 2016 presidential election night coverage. Seeing those liberal political hacks who call themselves journalists go from being jubilant and effusive at the beginning of the night to suicidal towards the end lifts my mood right up.

It's kind of like that in these threads as well. It's fun seeing the haters get mad at Nadal's opponent during the match for not playing the way the haters want him to play.

This is only the 3rd major Nadal has won without beating at least one of Djokovic/Federer in semi/final. The other two occasions were French Open 2010 and Wimbledon 2010.

They are certainly bringing him down quite quickly now and they are helped, immeasurably, by self-inflicted wounds.

I am talking about Nadal on grass, obviously.

Congrats to Rafa and congrats to all his fans. It's been a long wait, but boy was he gunning for it all clay season. 9 was incredible, 10 is insane. 11 coming up?

Thanks. I watched the pressers but it's still "clearer" to read the transcripts. :)

Kudos to Stan for being very fair and gracious in defeat. (While some fans here are still bickering and downplaying both players.)

I'm surprised to know that he was feeling good physically in both the semis and final. Now that's the man! 32yo and was still able to come out of a gruelling 5-setter at RG not feeling exhausted and didn't make any excuses for his loss.

And the fact that he really cares about events not called slam as well. Apparently his losing early in every clay Masters made him feel doubtful. He was trying hard to find his best tennis before and at RG while many of his fans were still taking it for granted that he would automatically peak and turn into Stanimal once Slams arrive. Some even claimed he's not a hardworker simply because of his inconsistency. I mean,.

I'm not his fan but he has earned a lot of respect from me at this RG (not that I didn't respect him a lot before that). 32yr and still going deep at every slam, still going so strong physically as well. In fact he was the oldest RG finalist since 1969!

This loss is certainly very sad for him and his fans but there are still plenty of possitive things to take away. He is still proud of his run (of course he should!) so I hope his fans are still proud of him as well. And don't forget there will be more to come. :)

Agree on pretty much everything.
Concerning the exhaustion question, I think it's part of his no excuses attitude which I like. If he was exhausted he wouldn't say cause when you take the court you're fit to play kinda

Well, a shame as far as Stan is concerned. He has blown is shot this year at winning a slam. Since 2014, his average has been 1 slam final per season. I guess we'll have to wait until 2018 to see Stan lift #4.

Nadal is the 2nd oldest male player in open era to win RG after Gimeno in 1972 who was 34. (The 2 youngest were Chang and Wilander: 17)
So much for the "Borg type career" theory ha ha
Well Nadal was skipping huge chunks of the seasons to maintain his health. He's skipped countless Slams and taken months off at a time because his body can't handle the rigorous grind of the seasons. Good idea I guess. Good for the sport that the legends can continue playing at a high level as long as they're careful with their schedules.

He has a chance at USO if he can avoid Federer. He's not intimidated by anyone else on hardcourts.

They made up and then take that Stanimal thing for granted to fit their posts and forecasts, disregarding just how hard it is for a pro at any level, let alone the very best.

Stanimal is going to bulldoze him in three.

There is no way he will serve as bad as he did against Murray, and there is no way Rafa will defend as well as Murray did. Numerous key points that literally only Murray's level of defense could have won. No way Rafa is landing stabbing stretch back-to-the-ball lobs 2cm inside the opposite baseline. Only Murray can do that, and that tenacity plus Stan's wobbles enabled Murray to grind out some undeserved sets. Today's Nadal is just not getting some of those balls back in play. And I don't expect him to get as much generosity on Stan's serve, nor can he return like Murray anyway at this stage of his career.
:sneaky:

Last good match by Nadal on clay, by Nadal's own standards. After 2017, he's never been close to his best on clay.
Even though 2017 was not peak/prime Nadal, the 2017 Nadal looks like a God compared to the 2020 Nadal.

I forgot how bad 2017 was after AO. Every slam final sucked monkey sheet

You have to remember that Stan beat Nadal in the last slam final they played and beat Djokovic in the US Open in the last slam final that Stan played in.

Nadal’s chances at RG will be downplayed for as long as world exists. Haters want to believe there is some hope.

And then he won 3 more after this, crazy to think in 6 months he could win 5 in a row equalling best consecutive streak at this tournament at 30+
