Wondering if this will work out in Rafa's favour, considering that the winner of the other match is going to be really dialled in.

A bit like Novak's journey to the USO finals last year, but far less extreme.

I know it'll be shot down, but a serious argument for a reduction to B03 at the slams in earlier rounds (excluding SF and final in my opinion)

5 of the 25 completed 3R/4R/QF matches have ended in retirement.

Gasquet against Monfils, Garcia Lopez against Raonic, Goffin against Zeballos, Anderson against Cilic and now PCB against Nadal.

None on the womens side in 3R/4R/QF. (Not saying it's better quality, just saying that many men can't withstand back to back 5 set matches unlike the big 4. Really favours them in a way.

Bo5 has never been a problem in the past though. It's just the LostGen and NextGen who are acting up.

It's been a problem the past few slams. Was it Wimbledon or USO last year where it was super hot and had lots of retirements? I also remember Jack Sock repeatedly struggling with B05. Seems the young guys don't have the stamina which is a real problem for when the big 4 are gone.

I think it's more that they play a long match. Then the following match they're a bit sore, they lose the first set and think that, ah screw it, I probably won't win this match anyway. Better not risk it.

For the 20-50 ranked people, they see tennis as a job and nothing more.

Defending champ and #2 Novak Djokovic is out!

Loses 7-6 6-3 6-0 to 6th seed Dominic Thiem.

Novak down to #3 in the rankings, first time since March 20th, 2011 he's out of the top 2. He'll be down to #4 if Stan makes the final.

Overall, I don't think the stats bear that out. Retirements make up a very small percentage of all matches played. And injuries are part of the game.

Best-of-five is eight weeks out of the entire calendar. If the players can't suck it up for the only four tournaments that really matter, then they have no business holding up the trophy on the Sunday.

Thank the Gods that it rained yesterday and there are four men's matches today . . . cos if not . . . you'd hardly be getting your money's worth after the first two this morning.

Definitely agree.

When nyc is bad it's sucks and you'd probably be better off for your health somewhere else, but on a nice day in the right time of year, nothing beats it. Definitely would be more chill in ******* or even LA tho,

LA is the ultimate dream but the cost of living is just so freaking high. Yea NYC is where everyone wants to be, well where everyone is really. Lol. 8 million people.

Busta would have retired yesterday too but it's unfortunate that even with two days break, he still had to retire. I just don't think these players are fit enough to go the distance. That match against Raonic really did him over. And I like Raonic and wished he'd won the match against Busta. He almost had it but wasn't able to hold his serve after breaking back. I did think he badly needed a minute or two after braking back as things were moving too fast for him but instead got broken right away to love, I think. How unfortunate that was. But he too is prone to injury so who knows; plus, Busta played really well so if he's unable to beat Busta, I am not sure how good he would have been in the qtr against.

Congrats to Thiem blnt Djokovic, 7-6(5), 6-3, 6-0,,looks like Djokovic is still having big problems with his game.

think they keep today's schedule for Friday and Nadal-Thiem go on first, or try and get them more toward late afternoon?

NBC's programming always concerns me here, they'd be showing Nadal-Thiem on tape possibly if they go second, and I'd have to find a stream...Tennis Channel has first semi

I hope Nadal goes down but at least if he wins beating Thiem and Stanimal I'll acknowledge it's a worthy slam. It won't be included with those joke hard court slams he won beating Gasquet and Youzhny in the semi's.

Didn't you post the other day that Cilic is a joke on clay and no worry for anybody?

Cilic has been looking good but I think his road will likely end in his match vs Stan.
I was tongue in cheek. That's why I put the ;)
It will be Murray or Wawa in final.

your acknowledgement is key...might even factor into Hall of Fame voting
