It's only the pair's second meeting in a final, Stan winning the only other final encounter at Monte Carlo in 3 sets.

Federer has never lost to Stan outside clay but there has been a few close shaves in recent years (WTF 2014, AO 2017).

They've played twice at IW before with Fed winning both occasions, last time in 2013 Fed was actually serving for the match before Stan broke back and forced a decider, even had an early break, before Fed came on top 7-5 in the final set.

Hopefully it'll be a good quality match, there's a tendency for matches between these two getting a bit scrappy with lots of errors/shanks.

Fed in 3.

EDIT: epic fail on my part for forgetting to put "Roger" in the thread title, wasn't concentrating :p

Could go either way but Fed in 2 would be my wishful thinking :D

Don't worry about the title. All know Federer.

Roger Federer has reached the final without even getting broke once!

He won Cincinnati twice without getting broken, 2012 and 2015. Will he do it in Indian Wells?

If it was for Novak, this uber slow masters event would have been another pet tournament for Fed

Larry must be happy that didn't happen. :p

Damn that 2014 MC loss sucked. It's good that there is less significance in this final.

Federer in 2

I'm a Fed fan, but I am picking Stan in three. The reason is solely because I didn't like Fed's play or court demeanor in the second set versus Sock today. He should have wrapped up the match long before a TB. He seemed a little affected by the heat at the end. He was also uncharacteristically breathing hard during his post-match interview with Gilbert.

I really think this is going to be like their Monte Carlo final where everyone thought Fed had it in the bag... and he lost it.

Hope I am wrong.

He will be ready for Stan. He has had much less time on court and when he needed to play his best, he did this tournament. Roger can mix up the play very well with Stan. I am confident he can beat him on any court outside of clay.

Sky Sports started showing highlights of their O2 match in 2014- wouldn't mind a contest like that, with an outcome which isn't heartbreaking :D

Stan was very close to beating Fed at the AO, he had multiple break points at 2-2 in the deciding set. I wouldn't write him off. Having said that I would still pick Federer.

Two Major-players playing a Masters final:)

Either outcome is ok, but Stan has never defeated Roger on HC. I think Rog in 3.

I think Fed will need to get the slice BH back on board tmr, it's something that was very successful against big hitters, and hitting topspin BHs against them sometimes can spell doom...

Stan has a chance and cannot write him off. He took Roger to the distance in 2013 and he was close to beating Roger in this years AO.

Still I go with Roger Federer.

Roger's best on this court is still better than Stan's best for me. Roger can also hurt Stan with more variety. He is not Novak. He will not give Stan rhythm to set up his shots. Roger is very aggressive and will take time away even on this court.

It is time for Stan to overcome his mental block from Mirka and his friend.

I hope Stan returns more aggressively than usual.

Interesting that this will be only the 2nd tour final the 2 Swiss maestros will have ever played against each other. Wawrinka, of course, won their only previous final on clay at Monte Carlo nearly 3 years ago. Both have played themselves into some great form here in Indian Wells so will be fascinating to see how it turns out this time. Still expect Fed to come through though. He's just been goating ever since he returned to the tour.

What's up with people saying its on Stan's racquet ? Maybe on clay at this stage of their careers, but not anywhere else ...

Fed's best at IW is clearly better than Stan's even now, see the nadal match for instance...

Fed often gets very defensive in their longer rallies. Stan hits a heavier ball. Of course, Fed plays the best defense so it should be a great battle if both are serving well tomorrow from start to finish.

True, Stan does hit a heavier ball, but Fed has the variety and ability to rob him of time on HC , so its not on Stan's racquet.

Fed is the fav, but stan does have a decent chance of beating him.

say Stan wins the first set in a mighty close TB, he can turn up the heat and he knows that a 2nd set like today form Fed is just around the corner. So if Stan chooses to turn up the heat, he can very well go through Fed. This is less likely to happen in a 5 setter.

Think people are underating Stan here! The guy has been working his way through and his quality against Thiem was superb. We don't really know where Federer is at

Stan in 3 for me
