Pathetic display from Stan. Either smashes the shot long or short. Tennis is need of new champions but sadly that probably wont happen for a long time so everyone has to watch the putrid play of past prime 30 year olds in all the finals.

Stan shouldn't even be in a final with as crappy as he plays.

You sounded (and smelled) so putrid.

Oh look, another Wawrinka bendover for his GodFed. If Wawrinka faced GodFed in any of his 3 slam wins he would be slamless to this day !

That's why he should coast until grass season. Maybe play one event. Why play all those stupid tournaments and risk injury. Go for Wimbledon. That's the big one.

I feel the opposite. WIth the way he is playing, and the way djokovic and murray are struggling and he may not run into nadal at french if he's lucky, he should put all his energy into going for french open. winning the second career slam. that would be way more valuable. Sacrificing an 8th wimbledon for a second french open title and a career slam is worth it

I think both got carried away in the trophy ceremony. Fed is taking his friendship with Wawrinka too lightly. He shouldn't forget that there has been several instances when Stan showed his grudge against Roger (2014 YEC, Shanghai etc.) and hence shouldn't laugh when Stan is speaking.

Stan's mentioning of a**hole word in presentation ceremony is absolutely ungracious. You don't just say that to Roger, not even jokingly.

Good match. But even with improved ground game, Federer will lose to Wawrinka at French in four set max. Stan is very close - last two encounters show. Federer having just 2-5% more. That's it.

That's already what he did in the AO, hitting a lot slices against Stan, and nearly zero against Rafa.

What was really impressive last night was his volleys. 15/17 I think, that's one of his best volley sheets I think.

I don't think so but I understand how other people could think so. For me, that 8th Wimbledon would be much more valuable.

He would never, ever skip a major unless he was injured, we all know that. He's one leg up on the CYGS and the field is pathetic at this point. Now of course it's possible for Nadal to rediscover his beast clay mode or Stan to morph into Stanimal all Spring. But it's more likely than neither will do either of those things.

It was a near-miracle Roger won the AO, so I believe in miracles now and want him to play and go all out for RG. All he has to do is play one Masters before, either Rome or Madrid. Imagine a favorable draw and the other big guys falling early? It's way too tempting for Roger and it could happen.

I think we're all getting too worked up over Federer's recent success on hc. On clay which is less forgiving to the body, I don't think the physical and mental effort are worth it. I think Federer could run into a lot of players on clay who could outplay him, i.e. Nadal (obviously), Djokovic if he recovers some form, Wawrinka and maybe Murray. Sure it's possible that Federer could get a favorable FO draw and Nadal, Djokovic, etc. could still be out of form but I doubt it.

I think we need to wait and see how all of these players look at the clay warm-up events before we go crazy about a possible second FO for Federer. Obviously Federer winning the FO with the possibility of a CYGS is tempting to think about and it would be beyond belief if it happened but the reality of it is minuscule IMO. I would much rather Federer focus on Wimbledon and the USO.

I think Roger will be back to his previous years levels once clay season starts. To be honest, the maximum I can think of is QF in RG. A lot of people can take out Roger there. Remember RG 2015 QF, Roger was so helpless against Stan. I can't see him beating Rafa, Djokovic and Stan. He can also lose to Kei Nishikori, Andy Murray, Dominic Thiem, Nick Kyrgios, Jo Tsonga, Gael Monfils ormaybe someone else. Gulbis took him down in 2014!

Wimbledon and US open are the majors where he has a realistic chances to win. I think he should play RG and maybe one clay masters and preserve his body for grass season. The very fact that some people think of CYGS is laughable to me. No disrespect to anyone

Only Nadal or Djoker fans feel this way. They're the only ones touting this "DCGS." Ask any knowledgeable Federer fan (or Fed himself) what they would rather have: an 8th Wimbledon or another FO. I would wager 90% of Fed fans pick Wimbledon. We already know W. is Fed's priority and not another FO, he's said it often enough lately. This "DCGS" does very little legacy-wise for Fed, or anyone else. Another Wimbledon title would be massively more important.

One other note-- if Roger actually managed to win the FO this year and get the DCGS, the suffocating silence from the Djoker/Nadal crowd would be huge. They tout this thing as if it's the Holy Grail, but if someone else achieves it, it will fade into the background in about 4 seconds.

Also, Roger already has the career slam since 2009. That was important, as it was for Agassi, Nole and Rafa. Nobody outside of fanboys cares one damn about this "DCGS."

Were people even talking about the DCGS when Fed was the first one to really get close to it in 2011 when he reached the FO final?

It only became a thing when Nadal reached the AO final in 2014.

The DCGS has been overhyped by some. Still, winning all 4 slams at least once is a great achievement, and winning all 4 slams at least twice would be a greater achievement.

Which, again, begs the question: was the DCGS even mentioned when Fed reached the FO final in 2011 and was close to achieving it?

DCGS was only made a thing when the Rafa trolls in this forum kept going on about it non-stop around late 2013 after he won the USO.

The other one that the loved banging on about was Rafa being the only person winning 3 slams on 3 different surfaces in one single year (2010).

Gosh N.S.K. talked so much about it those days I can pretty much recite them now.

Has anyone seen Wawrinka's post-final press conference? It's absolutely infuriating. Here you have the World No. 3 and 3-time slam champion having just lost his umpteenth match to Federer. And he has to sit there while these so-called professional journalists only ask him questions about Federer, wanting Stan to express how wonderful Federer is, in every possible way. I know the media is almost unprofessionally biased towards Federer, but it is very sad to see the second most successful slam player in recent years get treated with this level of indifference from the media. Roddick had a similar number of losses to Federer, but at least the media deigned to ask him some questions at his own press conference. I know the Federer bias has been around for nearly as long as Federer has, but it's super disheartening.

Pretty sad this didn't go 3 or we'd be looking at one of the best 3 set displays of ball-striking in a very long time at least in terms of the highest quality examples if not consistency.

To me Stanimal crying at the end meant he left nothing on the table for this match; this was near his best.

Oh okay. Would you like to see him play Rome? I hope he plays there. This may be an excellent chance for him to finally win it.

Not really. Some Federer fans are getting too carried away. This happens on this forum whenever any player starts winning a few things, i.e. we see 100 threads on how that player will win everything for the next 10 years. It never fails.

I don't care much if Federer wins Rome and I don't think he should put too much focus on clay. Let the grinders duke it out for the FO. I truly care most about Wimbledon and the USO for Federer. The rest mean so little for his legacy at this point IMO. Sure winning a second FO would be great but I can't see Federer realistically winning there again so unless it shockingly happens I'm not going to waste too much energy on it.

I don't think @beast of mallorca 's dislike for Stan has got anything to do with AO 2014 final. He is not the kind of a guy who will hate a player for beating his favorite in an important match

I don't know if you're being facetious Bud, but what can I say ? I hate who I hate for whatever small reason. And I like who I like. I've always hated Wawrinka even before the AO. Him, Hewitt, Kyrgios, Roddick, Haas, Ferrer, Tomic,Sharapova, Azarenka are the players that I always root against, It is what it is, Bud............

Just curious, what did Wawrinka do that you hated him so much even before the AO win vs Nadal?
