Somewhat disappointed that Amazing Angelegs got knocked out before the final. At least Carolegs is still in. Not the best legs but hope she takes it over Konta tomorrow.

I think this is down the line. Konta had huge momentum at the Aussie having won a tune up tournament where as Woz had a few struggles. Although I don't know if I consider losing to Strycova a bad thing to be honest but Gorges was bad.
This time its a switch around, Caro has way more momentum in recent weeks overall. Since the Aussie Caro has been a tennis machine and her results have been positive. If Caro can play that bait and switch game she has been employing pretty effectively lately, I can see that driving Konta crazy. From Halep, to Venus and now Caro...3 different styles. Woz plays a style that can really deal with anything if the opponent is off. Pressure is on Konta here. Woz has won a tournament of this stature before...so we will say. I'm going with Caro, but if Konta pulls it off, I will applaud her.
Two very different players , konta game is to be aggressive and take the ball early, backed up by her serve, Caro plays a different game, to frustrate and always be in the point,it really down to to who can execute their game on the day.

So they're playing @ 1 Eastern, noon Central?! That is embarrassing. These ladies don't even get primetime in this country. Their match will be over in the middle of the day, that is repulsive.

It will be over by 3 Eastern/2 Central. Just an absolute slap in the face to the sport. This isn't Sunday like we talked about the other day, this is Saturday in the US. Embarrassing, horrible, just unforgivable.

Could Wozniacki make a push for the number 1 again? I mean Kerber is losing ground, Sharapova and Azarenka would hardly play enough tournaments or gather enough points, Serina should finaly decline in a way of not reaching 4/4 Slam SF. The most strong contanders are Pliskova and Muguruza but they dont look unbeatable. If Caro finaly wins the Us Open, outside Serina, it would be hard for anyone else to match her.

I've been hearing about this Serena decline for ages but I don't see it. I think she's the only player for whom decline means winning more and more Slams and being more and more dominant. Dominance isn't playing every week for a year and winning everything; it's knowing you're so far ahead of the field that you can choose when to play and be almost 100% sure you'll get the big W when you do. So no, Serena hasn't been declining, she's been increasingly dominant. And there is no indication that she will stop dominating as long as the tour remains in the current status quo. If she can play tennis in part-time and still win the biggest tournaments (while the others keep beating each other week in, week out) why would you even consider retiring? I probably wouldn't. She's probably playing as much tennis now as some retired players who only play recreationally.

Federer could probably do the same thing in the men's game as it stands.

Ah, I'm so torn. Badly want Konta to win, but I'm a terrible jinx on her and watching could cause her to lose. What to do?!

I've been reading some comments on Facebook by former top ten players of both gender - and they're basically saying that the women are now nothing more than a warm up act for the men. And the former female players are much more scathing than their male counterparts!

Do you have links to that?

Look at the prices for tickets. Women's final = $50-$400. Men's final = $600-$2800. Hardly surprising given the two finals we have this week in Miami, but I suspect even with more popular WTA players (and I can't really name any other than Serena), the ticket price variance would still be there, though I don't know what the gap would be. It'd be interesting to track ticket prices on the open market (Ticketmaster, SeatGeeks, etc.) for a longer period to see if the men really are carrying the women at this point financially.

Serena at times in her career get distracted in matches and looses! But when things are resolve, she just wins the GS like it nothing - 22 of them now?

Konta seems quite articulate from the interviews I've seen. Maybe that's just me. Anyway, she's up the early break on Wozi.

Wozniacki played pretty badly to give the break back. Her serve was all over the place.

Favoring Woz here. JoKo was at her very best when they last played. Not at her best here.

To whoever said JoKo had momentum the last time: not so. Woz's form has not vacillated this season. Goerges was her kryptonite even when she was no 1. It is not her that loses, when she does, it is the opponent simply outplaying her.

Konta interviewing skill is great, she's been pushed by Australian media on her AO breakthrough on why she changed her nationality and if she would change her nationality, she gave a great answer

'You have a number of very good players, and it's - what's the word? It's not a privilege, but it's a compliment that you guys would say that, so thank you. But be grateful for what you guys have.'
“Australia is my birth home so it will always be a home of some sort,” “But I’m very happy, very pleased to be representing Great Britain. That is my home and that is where my heart is. That is where I grew up essentially. So when people ask me where I’m from, where is home, that’s where it is.”

Oh jeez, how Caroline missed that dropshot there. She was there in time too. Had the point wrapped up to go 40-40 and get herself out of trouble.

Good luck breaking Konta now, Caro.

Nice point to end it! Third WTA title for Konta and her biggest yet.
