Fair point, like Novak in the 2015 us open final. Absolutely.
Monfils handled that nicely in Paris when Fed was going for the RG title in 2009. It was hard for Monfils to see the French crowd not cheering for him, but he understood and respected that.

Honestly, how often do see a player smashing a racquet while the winner is waiting at the net to shake his hand?! I can't recall seeing that!

Lot of talk about the crowd and such here but did you see and hear that hitting? My goodness.

1) Federer's confidence is showing through in his winning close matches, but also at the beginnings of matches. He is so confident in the first few games and hitting freely. Since the beginning of IW, the few games almost always yeild him BPs and he looks unplayable.

2. Nick's movement has improved and will continue to get better the more work he puts into his lower body.

3. Federer's BH DTL in the first set was so good. He wasn't going for outright winners but hitting it deep and about 18 inches wide of the sideline which then set up easy FHs. A few crackers CC as well. That BH is just a thing of beauty. It will be interesting to see if he begins to hit more slice during the seasons or needs to come over at almost all times to keep his rhythm. There was a beautiful sequence in which they traded four slices and then Fed hit a rocket inside out FH reminiscent of 2006 for a glorious second. He used to draw that short ball off the slice so Michu back then but the new strings allow players to better generate pace off of slice and deal with it better,

4. Nick's service motion is so explosive and difficult to read. He can hit it 130+ out wide on the AD, 130+ up the T on the AD, 140+ down the T on the deuce court. Amazing serve that's much better this year.

5. Federer's reflexes on that BH return are incredible. How many 135+ serves did he put back in play well enough to start rallies? At least 10. Just incredible.

6. Djokovic fans won't like this p, but he played better tonight than he did in his two wins against Djoko.

The sound of their hitting was phenomenal tonight. The quality was very, very high class tonight.

Interesting response from Federer regarding a crowd that was booing, yelling, whistling and interrupting during Nick's service games.

In your legend's own words: "Nice atmosphere".

Money (nor GS titles) can buy class.

Officially off the FedExpress bandwagon. Enjoy, folks.

I wonder if Federer can ever recover from TennisFan436 no longer being a fan of his. Lots of sleepless nights ahead.

nick will learn.. the customer is always right. shouting back at the crowd is going to quiet them down. yeh right... he will learn to deal with it like a pro.

Dont count on it.

SAINT Nick: Nick Kyrgios tells fans 'I don't owe you anything' after giving up and walking off court in latest controversy

He couldnt care any more less about the crowd.

This comment from Nick is a slap on the face to ppmishra, The Fedfather, TennisFan 436

Its not surpising that the crowd would suck feds d**k as hard as possible to allow him to win

Did the crowd sucking his dick guide those 54 winners he hit on court or naw? All the forced errors he drew--did the crowd do that, too? Return all those 135+ missles?

You're not mad about the crowd--you and others are really mad that the guy you had buried long ago has risen and is at the top of the game and is beloved, BELOVED by all fans, and it eats you up inside. Sad, man.

I've nothing against the player. Its the hypocrisy of tennis fans that makes me laugh

"When it seems like everyone out there is cheering for your defeat, you gotta remind them that you earned your place." #fight #standtall #courage

......

still a weird head space even if he had reason to be upset...he's causing a fair amount too...won't be sustainable long-term...can't play the opponent and the crowd too

Crowds don't win you tournaments nor do they earn you rankings points. Kyrgios will be fine. And this chip-on-your-shoulder attitude is nothing new in sports. Plenty of successful athletes have thought the world was out to get them and they had to prove a point. Not everyone can show deference to the mob and not all should. I can think of a lot worse competitive motivations to have.

cheers to the NK fan who yelled out at Feds balll when it was in disrupting her Basket(ball)Case hero
I laugh eternally if it was later found it ways his usual over zealous mum

Great #courage by Nick alright. Just like that time a couple of days ago when he stood up to that 12 year old ball boy who wouldn't throw the ball to him satisfactorily. He really showed that brat the ole #Gallipoli spirit.

Kudos to Nick for being such a great sport. Crowd was a bit rowdy and to be honest, I deserved their seats more them for being so boisterous. I think about a quarter of the stadium didn't even have tennis etiquette. Miami Open is so bad and ball kids are so slow and casual sometimes look like they're lost.

Great game, didn't want another Fed Nadal final but wanted Fed to level meeting vs Kyrgios to 1-1.

Nick wasn't a bad guy in this match at all. He even gave Rogi a point for free. Nick was zoned in for the most part and the crowd just needed every excuse they could find to jump on him. I know past matters and all, but mostly I think it's just because the crowd are major Federer nuthuggers. Same thing has happened before vs. Djokovic and Murray before.
Glad one person here is fair. ;)

I loved that racquet smash, in all honesty. He was so open about his frustration and yet he gave Federer a good enough embrace and low-fived him again if I recall before vacating the arena. Fickle but honest.

I like Nick.
Me too. This kid is real, and he's good for tennis. To be honest if he had walked into the crowd and killed one of those idiots with his racket, I probably would have cheered. :D

I dont think its all fair in tennis when you say things like:

"I dont owe fans"
"Kokki banged your GF"

Gifting a point will erase all that and your status is immediately upgraded to "CLASSY". NOT.

kyrgios built his own reputation. i haven't seen anyone this hated since mcenroe in the 80's.. the crowd may have been rude & unfair but when he behaves the way he does and says things like "i dont owe the fans anything.." what does he expect is going to happen..? how can you blame anyone other than yourself?
