If you figured on ARV playing like complete garbage in the first set then you guessed right. Goodness gracious... ARV getting legs treated; he's cramping due to nerves or what?:confused:

I understand the Nadal fans coming out of the woodwork because this is the first thing Nadal has won in what... a year? I'm sure Fed's domination of him in 2017 has been particularly searing for them. But let's put this into perspective: it's not that Nadal is playing so well, it's that the competition here sucks. Even 2016 Djoker would have easily beaten him and a healthy 2016 Murray would also have beaten this version of Nadal.

He's still hitting short, and a high level of confidence simply isn't there, nor should it be. He had his ass handed to him on a platter all year by someone 35 years old and will win MC playing nothing but chumps. Peak Nadal had no doubts. This older, compromised version of Nadal has doubts and should have.

All respect to Nadal for #10 here and for being clay GOAT forevermore. But his play is nowhere near his peak level and his body will not hold up to the grinding and his ridiculous clay schedule for the next 7 weeks. This will be exposed by other players as Nadal gets increasingly wiped out from overplaying.

if so, i suspect that has also dampened Nadal's game some...

One would be stupid to think he'll ever get to his peak again. That's never happening and every nadal fan knows that. For me Nadal is playing better than he did last year against Murray. Why are you saying 35 yr old. Age doesn't always matter. He's never hit his backhand better than before this. It's not some washed up Federer. I don't know what's up your ass. Federer is winning left right centre. You think you'd calm down with the nadal hate.
 
Congrats to Rafa, getting La Decima is an incredible achievement and after early disappointments in finals of the season this must be a sweet win for him.

But no one really thinks Nadal will return to peak on a sustained basis. The question was whether he could play well enough to reach finals and win. And he's proven he can.

2017 has shown a marked improvement for Nadal so far.

Honestly, no. I love Federer, I'm happy for all his success. Australia hurt a little but Fed finally getting 18 was something I was pleased about also. He's been knocking on the door for 3 years.
