Djokovic leads H2H 10-1, though majority of their matches have been rather competitive. Simon tends to put up a decent fight. Maybe it's what Djokovic needs, could play himself into form.

I liked Simon's overall form in his match against Jaziri (excluding the serve, which I've completely given up on). Especially the return game, it was very sharp today.

Looking forward to the match, especially with Novak's patchy form, and his first match on clay this year.

Predicting Novak in 2. Could be that Simon puts up a better fight in one set and takes it, but I don't see Novak losing this one.

While not at his best in Acapulco and Indian Wells, Nole did look better in those tournaments and it took a very inspired Kyrgios to beat him. I expect Nole to be fresh mentally and physically, and that this will be an easy 2 setter for him, regardless of their recent history.

Maybe if Gilles wins Novak will do what he needs to: fire everyone, inlcuding his wife; and get something nourishing to eat.

Eating meat again, but not too happy about it.

"Bogdan Obradovic Serbian Davis Cup team Coach said in the interview for Spain newspapers (which was translated and publish in Serbian newspapers as well) that Novak finally started to eat meat. He blamed his vegan diet and influence of Pepe for his bad form this year. He said that even little changes in tennis, like changing your racket can affect your game drastically and that Novak changed his whole routine and diet and that affected him badly. He also said that Novak was more meditating then practicing and that he is his own enemy, he added that he has nothing against meditation but that you also have to go to practice and hit the ball million times as well.

He said that he had a problems with pepe because of Novaks diet but he didn't elaborate more on that. He mention that Michael Phelps loves to eat his grandmas food and after he sets Worlds records.

They asked him what kind of relationship he has with Novak - and he answered that Uncle Tony asked him exactly the same question, then he continued to say that he created conflict with Novak in the hope to wake him up. He said that Novak knows that he loves him and he want the best for him. He also told Novak that there is no tennis court or locker room in this world that he can hide from him. he said that he will always tell Novak exactly what he thinks and will not pretend. "

Started eating meat April 7. Not soon enough; dead meat against this Gilles.

Interesting! But I agree with the pictured reaction of the Djokovicses -- that meal doesn't look all that healthy.

Obradovic claims that the Spanish mistranslated him.

One of them in 3. Their matches have been pretty tight of late...

A potentially interesting match for sure, and could be enticing for those who like to see some tactics unfold.

But while Simon might well cause some headaches, Nolé will prevail with his shotmaking prowess, most likely in two, on his way to the title.

I think most people would say Novak is a heavy favourite for this match. That probably takes the pressure off Novak and puts it back on Simon.

Meditating more than practicing ... Dude needs to stop meditating, rewatch those Fedal Finals, get pissed, kick Pepe in the balls, and get to work.

He looked better when I saw his D.C. match. Hopefully the DC coach got thru to him

Regardless of their history, very dangerous match for Novak considering he's been on a break.
If I were in his camp, I would be very glad for this match. Novak needs a good match early on to see where he's at and really take the bit between his teeth.

What is with this draws for Novak this year?
I mean other than Zverev, all dangerous players he could have drawn are in his quarter.

I normally wouldn't be looking at opposition when talking about Novak, but he surely needs to bag points now.Even if he gets to the semi, it still isn't a big deal pointwise.

Hope he doesn't spend much time on the court in the early rounds.

Novak easily, 6-3, 6-2. Simon has nothing with which to hurt Djoker.

And Novak has nothing to hurt Simon. Have you seen him lately? His game is purely defensive now, except when he decides to dropshot at random times. Novak seems zoned out, as if the act of walking out on court is a struggle for him these days. I don't think changing his diet will help too much. I think it's a psychological problem. He always used to goof around at the start of his career, and I think to some extent he has regressed to that. He acts odd now, like he's uncomfortable. I think after the weight of being number 1 for so long, there's a part of him that doesn't want to feel that pressure again.

Just my thoughts.

The odds makers strongly favor Djokovic. This is an odd match as they've never played on clay (Simon not making it to Novak for sure). Simon has got one nice match under his belt so this match could be a rude awakening for Nole. I don't think Simon can hurt him, but nobody though that Auz Open match would happen.

You're argument might hold for Goffin if he bags Thiem. Goffin of late hits first serves considerably harder than Djokovic and is much, much younger. Even PCB fits that bill with his recent form. Winner of Thiem vs Goffin match may prevail againt this kinder, gentler peace loving Nole. Djokovic is in for a workout in every match.:p

Simon can play good tennis from time to time, and this can be a good test for Djokovic on his form. Djokovic in 2.

He should beat Simon 3 and 2, he's hardly reflective of a good match. He's had about 2 big wins in his entire career and usually lays down to the big guys. If he doesn't destroy Simon this is indicative that his slump is still in full gear.
