All Fed has to do is bring Z to the net. Most of these "next gen" types are horrible up there

Wait a minute, I have something for this:

Maybe shades of 2009 USO, Delpo vs. Fed?

I'm taking Zverev in 3 just to be contrarian. Fed still favorite but I see three sets today either way.

Fed needs to avoid ball bashing from the baseline and employ dropshots. He's still MUCH better than Zverev at the net.

Very little variety tonight even though there was some excellent shotmaking. But as was said above, all court game wins.

Fed in 3.
Yeah, it's Zverev's lack of variety that troubles me most. Fed needs to avoid giving him any kind of pattern or rhythm in rallies.

Lots of slice and dropshots from Fed today.

The final is set! Federer leads their H2H 2-1, but this will be their first meeting on a hard-court.

Zverev looking for his 2nd Masters title of the year, and 5th title overall in 2017. Meanwhile, Federer is still undefeated in Masters events, and is playing for his 3rd this year.

Quite the fascinating match up, hope it's a good one.

Scheduled for Sunday, not before 4:00 pm local time.

Does anyone else follow Zverev on FB?

He seems to be a huge Fed fan. Even after the Halle beatdown he was posting pics of him and Roger all over the place.

I hope he doesn't have Berdych syndrome!

Thats very sweet. (specially since in my avatar Im in my casual blood drinking mode and some could find that scary)
I just went to check the photo thread but couldnt find a photo of you. But I just checked 3 pages back.

I'm pretty sure that the only photo of me in that thread is a pic with me with a Rey Mysterio ( a wrestler) mask on. I prefer to be anonymous. :p I consider myself a solid 7/10.

Not scary at all.

I will stand by @Meles on this one, in victory and defeat
Good choice;)

The ********* drums of doom have sounded.

In the light of day Fed's game has looked ordinary this week and little hope that he'll bring his best for the final.

The Zedbot has cooled off from his redhot finishing matches at the Citi (better draw and event save this final at Roger's Cup.) Two weeks in a row, so he seems a bit gassed, but he's won in straight sets the last two matches and may just be saving his best for the last.

Montreal looks very slow compared to Citi Open last week. With a sunny day for the final the gap should be closed. Conditions will be more like the Real Slam.

Expecting Zverev to up his game like at the Citi last week, so this may not be quite the end of an era, but still see Zverev in 2 sets. If Zverev does not make a match of this then we'll still have big questions about his slam stamina. With both players levels being lowish coming into this match, can't quite call this historic, but at least it is a fairer fight than Halle.

So you prefer being all myserious :D Then I have my imagination left:p A solid 7/10 sounds great. Strawberry blonde?

He's gonna need a flat Fed for that to happen. And Fed's not flat, just rusty and bored, kinda cruising through in the absence of challenges (barring Ferrer). And there too, he regrouped after losing the first set. I also think if it plays relatively faster (because of the afternoon heat), it will play more into Fed's hands than Zverev. Interesting how the situation has changed. In 2014, he felt more comfortable in slow night conditions and pretty much hinted at it in one of the interviews. He lost to Tsonga in the Toronto final IIRC because it was played in faster daytime conditions. But now he's clearly more comfortable in faster conditions, whereas I think Zverev is more like Djokovic in that he's more comfortable in the slow-medium spectrum of pace.

When you get older night vision gets worse (if youre not a vampire of course). Many dont realize it before its quite bad, specially now when we are used to computers and phones that lights up when reading. It starts to get worse in the 30s.

I'm torn here.

Always been a Fed fan. Never rooted against him. Think it would be better for tennis if Zed wins this though. Plus it makes my earlier predictions on him seem more legit!
Give it another year, thats how it started for me about 2 years ago. I never root for players over 25 anymore :p

I think it will be close. Fed isn't in his best form yet - he's most likely aiming to peak towards the end of next week at Cincy and to carry that form into the USO. Meanwhile, Zverev is making it into finals so often that he probably feels it's only a matter of when, not if, he will beat Roger, so can't see him feeling too much pressure. He seemed a bit tense yesterday though, and for good reason, given that to lose to Shapovalov would have been tough.

Wouldn't mind Zverev winning this, probably for the first time in these guys' rivalry.;)
Gonna be up all night for this one:mad:

Interesting but he did play his share of night matches at the AO, so I am going with the pace of the conditions being a more important factor.

My prediction as well. Fed's been playing lousy all week and can't buy a BH down the line, but I was not impressed by Z at all against Denis.

I think we're seeing this week what an aging start is *supposed* to look like. Before they lose the power or the touch or the angles, the first thing to go is consistency. There are days when the bh fails or the serve is off. That was what we saw for the last few years with Federer, that he may show up one day and blow Murray off the court with pinpoint serving and devastating followups from the baseline, but two days later the serve was just a little off or the first serve percentage was down or the potential winners were missing.

That's normal. The continued precisions we've seen from Australia until Montreal was not.

But he has not been in unbelievable form match in match out this year either. Nishikori at AO, Berdych at Miami and again at Wimbledon (esp where Fed's level dropped off in the middle of the first set, he was quite horrid for a few games), Ferrer at Montreal. He's just getting away with it. And he was still getting away with it in 2015 too with the difference being there was always peak Djokovic to stop him at the majors. Remember he beat Djokovic at both Dubai and Cincy in 2015 far more easily than he should have given the age gap and that the latter was in peak form.

Federer will raise his level for the final.

My prediction is fed in 2 sets if zverev is not playing at top level, fed in 3 sets if he is.

If Zverev wins, it will be in 3, unlike what that over-hyper @Meles thinks.

He's simply a different player on championship Sundays, he doesn't bring his C game.

While this is true in 2017, there are endless examples of him bringing his D game to finals and losing: 2015 Wimbledon and USO finals are two of the more obvious (and hideously painful) examples.
