Can we please move on from this mythical "master class level" that Federer's supposed to be playing at? The weather is extremely humid/muggy and windy and the court surface is exceptionally slow. Bautista-Agut plays tremendous defense and can hunt down most any ball on a slow surface. Federer is 36 years old and playing all his matches with no days off. There's no "master class level" to be had.

Today's Fed is better.

But he can win this title with his C game, so it doesn't matter much.

A lot better. First serve % still really low but his net play is awesome and his ground strokes are better.

Better but needs to be betterer if he wants to win the title.

Thanks guys. Different Fed for sure. But @mike danny I doubt his C game will cut it vs a potential final showdown vs Zverev, kid is ok :) B game maybe ;)

Hitman, if Z makes the final, you don't think he has a fair chance against Roger? Fed's timing is still off and he's not playing anywhere near his best level.

Yes, he has a punchers chance, but it is certainly not 50-50. I think Federer is now fully aware of the Zverev's threat, so he will be fully zoned in. Zverev will need to play bold tennis, hard hitting, very aggressive even against a Federer that is not in the God form we saw on the grass.

Fed doesn't look the happiest out there today aswell. Looks like he still hasn't recovered from crying after listening to Fix You

Federer's desire to become world number one is going to make very difficult to stop for anyone now. He is not just targeting slams now, he wants to make history by becoming world number one at 36, which is some ways will be remember just as much as record breaking 6th USO.

After what he's already done this year, I'm passed caring what Federer should do or win.

For the remainder of the year, I'm just taking every match he wins, and Nadal loses, as a bonus.

That's a nice attitude to have. I'm working on it. To be fair, the guy has done over and beyond. It's just a bit tough to be content.:D

Lol, so true.
Once Fed gets that #1 i won't care about Rafa either.

I still need your cynicism come the USO though for the proper buffs to be applied to Roger.

Admittedly, it's mainly because I have more important things to worry about right now than Fed winning Montreal. Come USO, I'll probably turn handwringerer again, to the delight of @Federer and Del Potro.

My cynical anti-jinxing has a 100% success rate this year, so it'd be stupid to not grant Fed that 20th slam while I have the power to do so :)

Just move on and stop analyzing other posters. ;)

I'd love to but reading bombastic, hyper-critical, downer posts takes the fun out of commenting along to these matches. You guys were doing it so much during Halle and Wimbledon and Federer won both without dropping a set. No player is ever going to play perfect all of the time.

Fair point. Against Zverev I expect Fed to raise his level. Hard to feel the need to play at your best when your opponents are Ferrer, Bautista Agut and Haase.

Yep. I knew there was a catch somewhere. Do ya thang!:D

He just needs to hold once more and then he get off the court in 1:10 or thereabouts. It took him two hours to dispose of Da-VEED.

Yeah he's definitely looking much crisper than yesterday which is good. Especially because RBA has a solid 18-4 record on HC this year and was a pest against him in Miami. So if he can serve out here, a great match indeed even with the sometimes iffy serving.

I agree he looked/looks bored, annoyed and reeking "why do I have to play this MUG??" during yesterdays and todays match (e.g. channeling his inner 60's weed). So arroganteręr.

50 percent on first serves? I just saw that. You have to be kidding me. Agut who played a 3 hour match has it in the 64 range.

Oh dude. Just relax. You are crazy bi polar before, during and after the match that you go into sudden burst of rage for no apparent reason. Federer is not playing nor serving his best but he will get the job done and you need to chill.

Okay gotcha. Ferrer didn't seem too intimidated yesterday.:D

He used to allow them sets back then too :D
But that said, Ferrer's complete inability to score a single win has surprised me for sure, especially since he's such a tough competitor. Match up issue, I guess
