Well I scoured the match results forum only to find no thread about this match up. An all Spanish quarterfinal between two clay courters ...

Nobody thinks PCB can win or at least take a set, no?

Nadal in 3.
Interestingly, PCB partnered with Nadal to win doubles in Beijing last year.
In this tournament, PCB beat Mayer and Dimitrov in straightsets, T. Daniel in 4, and Raonic in 5 to reach his first GS QF. At 25, he should be entering the peak of his game. Wonder if he can challenge Nadal.

straights for rafa. i'd bet my savings account on it.
We can throw in this guy's life savings as well for this bet:

Busta is Spanish. Which means he cannot win this match period. Spain would never forgive him for preventing Rafa from achieving la decima !!!
Not that Nadal needs that factor to win :D ;)

Ferrer has beat Nadal at majors, Verdasco did recently, Ferrero beat him at a clay Masters...Lopez has racked up some wins lately vs. Rafa...a little overdone on how the Spaniards don't compete well and sometimes win vs. Rafa

even Alamagro hung in enough and fought hard enough to get a win

you know, Nadal has helped a number of these guys win Davis Cups, and doubles titles...Spaniards are tight but doesn't mean PCB won't compete...this is his biggest moment

Hey, at least PCB will be well rested since his epic win over Milos. He'll give it everything he's got as well, we can be sure of that. Reminds me of Ferrer, the intensity he brings to his matches. Forever, the little fighter.

As much as I want to this match to be over asap, aka Rafa baking PCB in as many sets as possible, so I can watch the Thiem vs Nole match with all my <3 lol, I doubt it's gonna happen, unless Rafa has a really good day and just not in the mood for any nonsense. PCB will be inspired and give his everything and the fact is Rafa isn't scintillating in every set and every match.

Rafa breaks again. PCB would do well to avoid completely collapsing here - worst thing for him would be to lose the set 6-1 now.

Rafa hitting well, but I'll probably turn my attention away from this one as it looks like he's got things under control.

And just as we thought, Rafa breaks again. Will serve for yet another 6-1 set. He stamps his authority in the first set of each match. If anyone still harbours hope of beating him, the only way is to start quicker than him - much easier said than done, of course :)

Rafa takes the first set.

Meanwhile Thiem and Djokovic aren't even halfway through their first set yet.

A shame. PCB's injury has severly hindered his service game. Averaging 130-150 on the 1st serve, it's going to get exploited.
