I like how when the WTA goes into a shambles Caroline is there to rise again lol.
You should watch more womens tennis or maybe you're not knowledgable enough if you can't see that Caro has improved her serve, forhand and volleys substantially(just check her stats regarding aces and forehand winners). Playing much better now than when she was number 1 in the world ranking. Might still not win today or get a grand slam, but her game has improved a lot..
Too easy to just disregard all her good performances and connect her rise to other players being injured or absent.

Too bad Wozi lost the first set. After breaking back and leveling things, I thought she'd settled down but oh well..

"So unlike Wozniacki to have this kind of quality blah blah blah"

The ESPN tennis commentators are such morons. All I ever see Wozniacki do is hit unforced errors, sailing balls long. It was pretty obvious to me that Svitolina would chump her. Wozniacki is a dumpster fire, and I can't believe people still hype her up as if she's a Top 5 player, she's nowhere near that she's a mental midget who will often send the easiest returns out. Great women's players keep the ball in play consistently like Kerber and Radwanska do.

Where those "improved" volleys at? Haven't seen em today or the other matches I've watched her.

It's all a lie. Wozniacki is as fraudulent as they come. Just like people are buying the hype from that 18 year old Canadian challenger scrub that Zverev manhandled while playing his C+ game last night. And I guarantee that kid will never make the SF of a major.

Woz is not patient enough. Even if it looks bad, most games in Svitolinas serve have been close.
But not a good match up for Caro. They play similarly but Svitolina just have slightly more power especially on the forehand.

I feel like Svitolina normally plays with more pace, but I have not watched her enough. In this match though, she's just as consistent as Wozi, but when she wants to she can blast it off both sides and Wozi doesn't usually have an answer.

I agree with the Comms. Svitolina was just too good for Wozi. She nearly destroyed Halep just yesterday. Though Wozi faught hard, it still wasn't enough against a very solid Svitolina. She deserves all the kudos.

If Woz keeps making these finals, there will come a point where her opponent in the final will be injured and she will win.
It's simple law of probability.

Woz's much needed new team member:

Couldn't watch the final. I hope it was Eli masterclass more than anything else.

So the road was Kasatkina-Venus-Muguruza-Halep-Wozniacki. My lady better keep teaching.

She got a combined 1 vote in the polls of three Premier 5 events this year. TTW, please ignore her at Slams too. :D

Svitolina has won all 3 Premier 5 titles. Has to be one of the biggest players to never have a deep slam run (no I don't count two QF runs where she didn't face a top 20 player). Imagine her being world #1 without a slam SF to her name.. She's #1 in the race ranking.

Or even worse, Wozniacki being #1 without a title. It's looking like a possibility. 6 runner ups now but still getting lots of points. #5 in the race ranking.

Also: 5 players now have a shot at the #1 ranking in Cincinatti.

Pliskova's the defending champ so she loses 900 points but she leads Halep by 790 points and Halep's defending 350 points. So Pliskova is somewhat comfortable, as long as she doesn't bow out early.

This is from wiki:
Depending on the results of the other players, Halep must reach at least the semifinals in order to attain the top ranking, Svitolina must reach at least the final, and Kerber or Wozniacki must win the title.

I'll do a Cincy thread later today when i'm home.

She's got form. After all she went 67 weeks at #1 without a Slam! ;)

Just caught up with this one.
Nice to have two quiet players in a final.
Not a grunt, shriek, Phewwwwwww or eyeja to be heard :)
Not the finest match ever from Woz.
Congrats to Svitolina. She did enough all week even though looking fatigued most of the time.
The stats aren't that different. Svit hit 5 more winners. I guess the forced errors tells the real tale.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Rybarikova was seeded #1 in the qualies, lost in the final qualifying round to Lepchenko 7-5 6-0, but got in the main draw as LL; this week they played doubles together in Cincinnati...
