Cuevas Magical failure on late challenging a ball square on the line. The Magician had his ball mark all line up, but ump was no chump.

Cuevas broken after the 0-15 start and 2 minute badgering.:D

GSM Thiem. The Cuevas will never wavered (he did well to save all those BPs), but the fuel tank ran dry, and in the end, it's the younger, stronger Dominic Thiem who moves past Cuevas into his first Masters 1000 Final!

Cuevas shook hands with the umpire after the match, but not without adding a few words of displeasure.

Maybe not the toughest draw en route to a masters final but Thiem deserves it as I feel he has played the best tennis in Madrid after Nadal.
Nothing like some evaporation to give Thiem some gas for the final depsite the orgnaziers best efforts.;)

I hope he gets a 2nd wind of sorts. I'm feeling like he's absolutely gassed.

But I'd love for him to prove me wrong!
Shouldn't be too bad. Thiem got to play Tuesday and have a day off before the Dimitrov clash of ages. Fairly efficient matches. Now Rome next week may be a bit much.

Well, if Injurikori is playing I'm sure the Thieminator can manage too ;)
Despite Clayikori showing up this week his alter ego may yet cause a withdrawal. Kyrgios should move over into his place if Kei does the decent thing and withdraws soon.

I'm sure he'll make the QF with Nadal, but fuel may be an issue come then. Its Madrid or bust.

You must be very proud for Thiem. Hopefully he doesn't mug in the final!

I don't think this Cuevas match took much of a hit on his gas tank. Most of the points were shorter and Thiem was never troubled on serve. He popped in 73% first serves tonight and had an astounding 84% earlier in the week with big serving. Closer to 80% later today:confused: and he may get some good pressure on Rafa.:p Madrid is not Rafa's favorite playground and Thiem may be able to hit through him more than Barcelona. All good signs.:D

Great match from Thiem. Cuevas didn't play bad in this match at all. Thiem just maintained a slightly higher level for the duration.

Finally Thiem does something of note in a big clay event. For all the hype he gets on clay, it was about time he did something meaningful outside of 250's/500's.

He's going to lose anyway, but at least he is contesting a final.

I'm worried about both Nadal and Thiem having nothing left for RG...
