It wasn't his best match but it would be churlish to call it a bad match when you still win in straights against the World No. 4. Plus he is looking a bit tired after the continuous play in the last 2 weeks

He won playing "bad".
Its maybe good he got a bad match winning before the final.
 
Well, Nadal avoided the punishment for his missed opportunities. He still won in the end. Could have been worse. But still, why not win from the first try? :mad:

Well, should be very happy with this.
Cannot expect him to win every match easy and always play on high level. This is good 4 his confidence. Need some nerve.
Winning like this is a good sign. We know he can play better, but played worse and still won. Cilic is a HC specialist. 13 aces. Vamos Rafa!
 
Guys, say whatever you want, but Cilic doesn't deserve to be world number 4. Do you really think this is the fourth best player in the world? He only won one 250 title this year and that's it. Dimitrov and Thiem did better than that. Also, no need to overrate his Wimbledon final. He had a lucky draw (with Nadal and Murray losing especially) and only faced a strong player in the final. We all know what was the result.
I understand this is a result of Djokovic, Murray, Wawrinka and Nishikori not playing. But still, there are players who deserve it more than a player who is an unforced errors machine most of the time.

2015 was traumatizing. When we see small signs of it, it brings us 2 years back.
Im watching stats while match is played. And his serve stats did go down, it wasnt Cilic goating when Rafa got broken 2 set. It was indeed 2015 glimpses.
Have some mercy please!

Think he should ditch Basel or Paris.
I like Basel as a tournament much better, much nicer courts to watch than Paris imo.
So personally I hope he ditches Paris.

Ranking takes 52 weeks, Cilic has Basel and Paris points plus a win from Nishikori at WTF. He's not 4th in the race so chill if you did not like him to be there.

Like Zverev who hasn't touch a QF GS? But he did reach no. 4 so If not Cilic, Zverev also deserve it. Maybe Dimitrov to certain extend but he had horrendous clay and grass season.
Like Thiem who played every week and lost 7 1R/first matches he played? I like Thiem but no he's not a top 4 this season.

Zverev, Thiem, Dimitrov are all overrated players as well. But I would rate their 2017 results above Cilic's.
