Well, Aga is terrible now and seems like she has one foot in retirement.

But you're right that it has really been thrilling. Venus vs Serena in a slam final, a 20 year old fighting back from a set and *3-0 down in the French Open by hitting every line in the book, Muguruza getting her second slam and finally establishing herself with consistency, Kvitova's comeback, Keys and Stephens.

Yet we're still waiting on Vika's and Serena's comebacks, and a Sharapova at full strength.

Sharapova is at as full strength as she is going to be. She is turning 31 soon, won her first slam at 17, has years of shoulder problems and injury, and her real prime end a good 9-10 years ago and she only stayed as much a contender as she was due to the dearth of any respectable up and comers/young players which are finally starting to come. Not to mention she is no longer gaining the benefit of a major PED. No woman but Serena in the Open Era won slams over more than a 12 year span, even Evert, Navratilova, and Graf didnt manage it. I highly doubt Sharapova is going to break something even those all time greats couldnt do.

Serena has way more chance of winning another 2-3 slams than Maria has of even winning another one.

Agreed on Aga Rad.

So I am trying to look for a replay of the Madison Keys v. Coco match. Usually, all the matches are uploaded and available for replay on the ESPN/Watch ESPN app. They have every semifinal match available but Keys v. Coco. Coincidental? I think not.

It's Sloane Stephens vs Sloane Stephens final. :)

Are you going to UNC?

I honestly think that ESPN are doing a decent job in showing the matches. I have Directv Now ($35 a month), and I have full access to ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN3 whether via Apple TV or Ruko. In the first few rounds, I could watch whatever match I wanted, and didn't have to stick to what ESPN and ESPN2 are showing. No complaints.
yes I have season tickets for UNC football. not a huge fan but live here so what the.

You really think so? I was on a vacation in the last week so barely watched any tennis. Were Keys' next two opponents poor?

Kanepi in the quarters played well, but an old Kanepi not a tough opponent for a quarterfinal obviously. In the semis she would have played Coco who played a very poor match against an on fire Madison, didnt serve well at all, lots of errors, and very tenative.

You were saying....
i mentioned in another thread that Sloan will be a problem for Maddie due to her speed. and Maddie has that Leg Injury. so i did predict Sloan winning this US open. Understand that i can't directly tell you who will win. i have higher being i have to answer to. Timeline commissioner will strike me down if i start telling people directly what will have in the future.

After Keys and Sloane, I'm hoping some others of the more talented US women also raise their level, e.g : Cici Bellis and Townsend. Taylor isn't bad, if she is fitter.

Something tells me Sharapova winning another GS title is the last thing in the world you want to see. :D

Also, the 125k Dalian Open has been on this week.

Zvonareva used her Protected Ranking to get into the event.
She beat 4th seed Chang, Gao, Sharipova and Diatchenko and is into the final where she'll play 5th seed Kozlova.

The wins (along with her 1st qualifying in at the USO) have pushed her up 319 spots to #319 in the world.
The title will push her up to #244.

Great to see her back.

Wha...

I honestly thought she was retired. I haven't heard anything about her for the longest time. So many players making comebacks. Good for her!

Yeah! Got married and had a child in 2016 but returned earlier this year playing qualifying at ITF tournaments and she won an ITF tournament in Sharm El Sheik.
She got a WC into the qualifying draw of the Premier Connecticut Open last month where she won her QR1 against Anastasia Rodionova but retired against Wimbledon SFist in the 2nd qualifying round. (Still good points for her ranking).
She used her Protected Ranking to play USO qualies and won her QR1 against 17th seed Han but lost QR2 to Loeb. And then yeah, used the PR for 125k Dalian and is in the final!

Great to see :)

Does the WTA have the same rule as the ATP considering players outside top 8 who won a Grand Slam? In this case, the line up for their final Masters is 90% certain.

Apparently the commentator said to/about Sloane "You did something i have never seen before. you got up from your side and sat with Madison (after the win)".
Guess they forgot about this...

We also had Vinci/Pennetta just two years ago.

Honestly, I like Tom Rinaldi, but I don't think he did well in this USO. For example, after he interviewed Madison Keys on Friday, he said something like "on to her first major final, SLOANE STEPHENS". He was also very slow.

If we go back however many Wimbledons ago, didn't Fed and Hrbaty sit together while the match was still going on?

Edit: and I almost forgot why I went to this thread in the first place. Hingis the wizard up a set and a break in the doubles final with partner Chan. Beat Mirza in the semis I believe.

Hingis - 2 GS titles! Congrats! I hope some of the top ATP players will start playing doubles like Hingis when they retire from singles.

Yes, Martina is the queen of doubles!!! There must be something about being named Martina and being the greatest women's doubles player of all time. I suspect Navratilova may have some claim to that title as well. Just fun to watch Hingis and whoever her partner is at the moment win... On the men's side, the only person I can think of like that was McEnroe.

Moya: "Rafa Always Gives His Best"

SEP11 2017

"Spaniard believes Nadal will be challenging at the top for years to come"

When Carlos Moya joined Rafael Nadal's team ahead of the 2017 season, he did so with total optimism. "When I joined the team I knew that there was much more to come for Rafa, that if he stayed injury free and continued training with the same motivation, desire and confidence, that the tennis would come," said Moya.

"And in any case, we are talking about a legend, so the victories always come sooner or later," added Nadal's coach, himself a former World No. 1. He wasn't mistaken. Three Grand Slam finals later, and with the US Open trophy now in his player's hands, Moya couldn't be more satisfied.

Their relationship and friendship is well documented, with Moya mentoring Nadal since he was a teenager. But has anything ever surprised him about Nadal during his career? "Many things have surprised me," he responds without hesitation. "When I saw his progress, how quickly he went through every stage of development, when he won Wimbledon, when he achieved things that were unthinkable at that time in Spanish tennis... Now, nothing will surprise me anymore. He always gives the best of himself. We are talking about one of the greatest players in history and, as such, my faith in him is rock solid."

Moya, who as a coach has guided Nadal to three Grand Slam finals this year as well as taking Milos Raonic to the Wimbledon final in 2016, sees Nadal competing for everything in the future. "If he can stay as healthy as he is now, without injury, motivated, looking after himself the way he is, we will be talking about Rafa for years to come," said the Mallorcan.

"He is a player who broke records as a teenager and who is now breaking them as a veteran as well. This is something we haven't see much in the history of tennis. People talk about how physical tennis is, but here he is at 31 winning two Grand Slams, right behind Federer. We mustn't underestimate his talent, his ability to improve, to analyse things. For me, there is no reason to think he can't spend many more years on Tour," said Moya.

Can a World No. 1 and winner of 16 Grand Slams stay motivated? "Someone who has achieved so much will always find a new challenge," said Moya. "There aren't many challenges left, but there are some. He is a very competitive person, a very demanding person and that helps a lot. He will keep finding motivation and his biggest motivation will be to keep improving, keep evolving, stay competitive and he knows that if he can do that, the options to win tournaments and fight at the top will be there."
