2017 USO R4 - [12] Pablo Carreño Busta (ESP) vs. [Q] Denis Shapovalov (CAN)

Busta won fair and square. Stop with the sour grapes. Shap is a good player but the hype was too much.
I never cared about the hype. I hate it when people like Carreno-Busta win anything. They represent everything that I hate in a tennis player. Bland in every single way.

Okay. That's enough for me today.
It was a good fight but PCB has been the better player today. Congrats to both guys.
See ya in Laver cup Denis! :)

I understand that he is an impressive talent, but the shapovalov worship is getting ridiculous. He did amazing considering his age, but he straight up got beat today. Hitting a massive winner once every 4-5 points doesn't win you matches. He played a guy who gamed him into making wild errors.
shows what certain posters prioritize

I mean its boring. but if you wanna win matches its the smartest way to play. its not easy to pull off either.

This set is PCB's. Calling it.
You got it. Busta was too consistent and Shapo off too much.

Shapo was in the wrong places at the net and made some easy errors there.

He's only 18 and playing much better players than he has been. I'm sure he'll learn quickly.

He learned a lot the past month, it takes time to digest it all.

This is a golden opportunity for Sam Querrey. He will never get this chance again so he better make the most of it. I think he can go to the final.

Yeah, yeah. You're so right. I'm sure you're so right. Don't waste all that knowledge on TTW. Go out on the tour and offer up your services. I'm sure there are plenty of pros you could help.

Oh . . . I gotta go. Match is over. Carreño Busta wins 7-6, 7-6, 7-6. But I'm sure I'll see you in the thread for his next match so you can tell us all what a piece of sh*t he is when he loses.
Ohh, and just FYI, it isn't about me being right, even what I said could be wrong in part. You were completely wrong. Busta doesn't win that match using your approved method of mental match preparation. Much more goes into it than that. As much distaste I have for players like him. They work their ass off and prepare for struggles like today. You completely overshadow the fact with supposed superiority guys like Murray, Djoko, Nadal, Fed rarely show signs of.

He lost in 3 tiebreak sets in the last 16 of a Grand Slam tournament at 18 years old, what was your major achievement at 18? Mine was being able to smoke a sh*t ton of bud and heel flip off a set of 8 stairs.

I don't think anybody with 2 working eyes disputes any of that. Many of us are just disappointed (obviously some can hold their bias better than others).

No doubt. What he has done this past 3 weeks is amazing. He is only gonna get better. I'm just saying he was outplayed on the bigger points today.

The guy is an amazing talent.

PCB is genuinely a great athlete with a steady offensive baseline game. People underestimate him because he doesn't hit through the legs or argues with umpires. Funny how people complain about players clowning around or smashing rackets but when someone doesn't do it, he's considered boring and untalented

Seriously. The better player on the day won. Any neutral can see that. Denis served 60%. He was 3/13 on break points. 54/55 winners to unforced, which (and anyone who knows tennis knows this) is not good enough if you are the aggressive player out to smack winners to get the win. That ratio isn't good enough.

I mean, everything you need to know is right there on the stat line. I understand players like Nadal, Fed, Djoko having fans with blinders on, who can't see the truth because they're too busy idolizing . . . but Shapovalov is not even in their stratosphere. So the bitterness seems a bit much.

Haven't watched that much of this tournament but sad that shapovalov couldn't continue his amazing run. Anyways he has a really bright future. He is motivated, he has a great attitude, workt ethic etc and all that is key to maximize your talent.

This is very true.

Shapo is going to have nightmares about this one till the Australian Open. Had he won the 1st set, he probably takes the match.

However, lesson learned (hopefully). He'll need to come up with a better gameplan against pushers because he is bound to run into quite a few in his career.

I could be totally off, but he reminds me a bit of Simon (obviously in better days). He has incredible movement, steady strokes and those scrawny legs lol.

Very true. He's done well and hopefully will be a big player in the near future. Regret not pounding on PCB to take the sets when he was down. Would've either won a lot or would've lost but my chances of winning 40k would've been that much closer. No losing situation there. Too bad only bet on PCB ML when he was up two sets. Only got 60 bucks from that.

Yeah, I was typing on a really small screen. (sheesh to me. )

Yes, some people over-hyped, and, in particular a few were taking it to inappropriately negative levels against his opponents, but the vast majority were just enjoying the ride and excited that an 18 year old of this talent has shown up on the scene. Nothing wrong with that. There is nothing wrong with hope and excitement.

They all know it, Shaps is the best thing that has happened to tennis in a long time. They all sense it. Shaps I am cheering you on the rest of your career. Stay strong, humble, hungry, focused...Immortality is waiting. Take it, it's yours! ;)
The most important thing that the Denis did today was to bring the TT forum together.

Farewell brothers and sisters. It was nice knowing you. lol

Bland but it's the style of play that generates the most consistent results. Flashy type players aren't usually consistent only the top ones are. But for guys like PCB, you can be consistent even if you aren't a top guy in your style of play.

Shaps is playing a new class of players now that have years of experience and have proven themselves, not the challenger types.

He has done amazing well on the main tour for his experience and age, that's where the hype comes from.

No one was expecting a title here.

So settle down and let us have our fun. LOL

Great solid match by Pablo. Hats off to him. He did exactly what he had to do and was solid and consistent.

Great run by Shapo! I'm excited for his future. He's a nice, talented young man who never gives up. I mean never gives up. A true competitor.

Always good to see the more talented player win, congrats to soon to be top 10 PCB, excellent routine straight sets over the qualifier just like previous rounds.

He still believed despite being two sets to love down. Was positive and still pumping himself up. Early signs of a champion.

i cannot get over the fact that he lost in 3 tbs after being a break up in s1 and 3 and having 3 sps in s1. what is with the people i like failing to close it out...perhaps a sign he is indeed destined for greatness?
