A decent field for a 250 event, 48 man draw for 2017.

Carreno Busta is the defending champion, defeating Bautista Agut in three sets. Can he repeat?

Simon will play? I thought he was shutting it down like everyone else.

Nice to see Russian Currency will be accepted in North Carolina!
Haven't heard anything else. Where do you hear/find news like that btw? You would think he'll play a tournament leading up to the USO, so I do expect him here. He's played here the last couple times, losing in the opening round.

I may have misread something here when he was not in the Montreal or TRS draws, a first for him in non-Olympics years in quite a while.

Isner should definately withdraw. Likely this Us Open is his best chance for a deep run in a Slam(possible SF) given the depleted field + he would go deep in Cincy. John seems like a smart enough person to understand the opening he is getting here - three top 10 players are out, another three are in very bad shape and that leaves Federer, Nadal, Thiem and Zverev - 50% that he would avoid a QF section with them, 75% chance that he would avoid Fedal before the SF!

I like how the picture of probably the joint favorite to win the title is placed in 8th position :D

My simple (Simon) math and research to validate @The Green Mile 's statement that Gillou usually bombs out first match (two years running) leads me to believe "Carolina On My Mind" is not on the Frenchman's mixtape.

The real favorite is right below him as the young Russian Currency performed the perfect strategic tank in 1R qualies at TRS and thus avoided getting one of the four LL entries to MD. How else can you explain loosing SoBadly to Gulbis???

Money FTW! He likes ATP250's!

I meant Anderson :D so 10th, bad math from my part

So, a strategic tank at TRS for him as well, no? It is contagious but almost acceptable at KAndyman's age.

We'll have to ask nearby residents like @jaggy how the weather is...it's always a factor with a five-match path to the final for the seeds. I'm still amazed at Air Bear's run two years ago that included qualifying! Nine matches and he lost closely in two sets to KA in the final!!!

I wish they would hurry up and release the qualies draw so I can make my plans for tomorrow. Weather here is very humid. Went out with the dogs at 6:15 this morning and wanted to just go straight back in it was already so sticky and humid. WS forecast for tomorrow is sunny, not looked much ahead as I cant see me making it unless Kyle Edmund went deep then I'd maybe see if I could wangle something.

Attending the Semis and the Finals this year. Field is ok, pretty disappointed we didn't get any better late wild card entries as we have in the past. Was hoping since Berdych lost early in Cinci he'd come again, but no luck.

Still a great event where you can literally sit on the court with top players. Will be fun as always. Would love to see Verdasco make a run here, always enjoyable to watch. (I'm a fellow lefty)

PS: Isner better not withdraw. He helped get the event here, and hasn't attended in the last 3 years hurting the overall attendance. Being he's from a few miles away from Winston (Greensboro) the least he could do is support his home tournament.

Time will tell. Best final here I ever saw was Isner/Berdych that went to a 3rd set tiebreak with Isner prevailing 11-9 I think. Great atmosphere for that one.

Just got home, watched Kyle Edmund win a pretty close one over an impressive Max (Iwant to call hime Mel) Purcell. very hot, I went to the top row where by standing up I got a cooling breeze. Legs got tired and I sat down on the metal seat that pretty much burnt me. The players looked spent at the end, Purcell did take a med time out for an arm or finger injury, hard to say while watching.

So you didn't catch the upset by teen Borna Gojo, the WFU freshman from Croatia? He beat #3 seed Bemelmans 7-6 3-6 7-6. Must have been a crowd pleaser for the locals! His older teammate Mansouri wasn't as fortunate, losing in straight sets after a heartbreaking opening set TB, 6-7(12) 2-6.

It was on one of the outside courts and there was a good crowd but I was just too hot and wanted out.

The other event James Blake won they had an agreement to play one set only, so how hot is it?
Saturday was low-mid 90s and quite humid, it can get worse. Sitting on metal seats in that, even with a breeze and hydration took it's toll and I was not into it any more.

Hopefully the injuries/withdrawals are kept to a minimum. This tournament is at a very inconveniet time in the calendar.

Alexander Dolgopolov match investigated amid allegations of match-fixing

21 AUGUST 2017 •

In an unusual step, the Tennis Integrity Unit – which polices allegations of match-fixing on the professional tour – has announced that it is investigating an ATP match only a matter of hours after play concluded.

The match in question took place last night, in the first round of North Carolina’s Winston-Salem Open, where Alexander Dolgopolov was defeated 6-3, 6-3 by Thiago Monteiro – a player ranked 51 places below him at No. 114 in the world.

The result might have been a minor upset, on paper. But the more surprising thing was the way that the odds shifted a couple of hours before the players went on court.

Monteiro had started out as a 3/1 outsider on some exchanges, but the odds soon reversed – a sign that significant money was being gambled on the underdog – so that it was Dolgopolov who became the less favoured player.

Responding to these anomalous betting patterns, a number of bookmakers suspended any betting on the match before it had even begun.

A statement released this morning said: “The TIU was made aware of concerns over betting patterns during the match … As with all match alerts, the TIU will assess, make a judgement and take appropriate action on the information received through its co-operative agreements with betting operators.”

Dolgopolov – who is 28 and comes from Ukraine - has previously acknowledged that he was among a group of players who received letters from the TIU soon after its foundation in 2010, but he has never been censured and there is no suggestion the players are under suspicion.

Thus far, the TIU has brought sanctions against 32 players, including ten life bans. However, its critics argue that it has been too unwilling to take on well-known names or fight cases against potential match-fixers who have the money to afford strong legal teams.

After the BBC and Buzzfeed were critical of tennis’s match-fixing safeguards in a joint report published during last year’s Australian Open, the sport has invested in expanding the TIU’s operations and recruiting more investigators. An independent integrity review has also been commissioned, and will deliver its first findings before the end of the year.

Taylor Harry just frittered away his break. But he does that all the time and he's against Jaziri who's strong enough to swing the big Prince 100.

Benneteau to win his 1st ATP Title?

I voted for Anderson but he ain't playing, I reckon he could have won this.
