Venus isn't doing much. Bossed around in 80% of the rallies...Mugu just starting to spray too much...as shown by 20 unforced in 2nd set. Like every once in a while Venus hits a good shot for a winner maybe, but her rally ball is not pressuring Garbie at all.

Congrats to Slaynus on a great tournament. Lost R1 last year and she's 3 in the race :D

I ain't mad at cha girl.
Congrats to Muguruza fans.

Good time for Muguruza to get into form.
Gains 350 points for her ranking which pushes her up 2 spots to 5th in the world. She's got 2000 points from the French coming up so she was needing as many points as possible. Say she loses early, she'd fall to around 17th in the world.

Halep also gains 350 points as she fell in the 2R last year. She's now up to 5555 points. If she were to win the title, she'd overtake Pliskova and become #3 and be just 5 points behind Serena and just 925 points behind #1 Kerber. She's coming really close to that #1 ranking. Kind of a surprise.

Svitolina also rising 1 spot which pushes her back in the top 10 at #10.
Venus jumps 1 spot to #11.
Caroline down 2 spots from #10 to #12.

Bertens is another one getting into form at a perfect time. Into the SF. She was defending her Nurenberg title points this week (280 pts) so she's more then covered them (350 pts) so basically next week, any points she gets while playing Nurenberg will be a bonus for her ranking and she's the defending champ there. She's up to #19 in the world. But is defending the French SF points in coming weeks which if she loses early, will see her drop from #19 to around #37.

Why is Halep crushing everyone?

Because there's no one consistent in the current top ten. Halep's the best there is at the moment especially on clay. Muguruza is capable of crushing Halep but one never knows what head case Muguruza is going to do every time she steps on court. She's as unpredictable as the wind.

The wind is calling her name, MUG???

Bertens has been playing full schedule non stop, She better rest up for RG.

She was struggling at the beginning of the year, but she's now looking unbeatable (at least on clay).

Can't see Kerber or Pliskova making the final so probably the best chance at someone overtaking Kerber would be Halep winning Rome and the French and having Kerber lose before the French final (almost a certainty she will at this point). Otherwise, Halep win Rome and reach the French final with Kerber out in or before the 3R and Pliskova not winning the tournament.

If Halep loses the Rome final, her only shot at becoming number 1 is by winning the French, and even then she needs Kerber to lose by the QF.

Of course there's better scenarios for Pliskova but I'd be stunned if she won the title or even made the final. Kerber with a decent grasp on number 1, even if she bombs early again, just needs Halep and Pliskova to not make the final. Which is achievable.

Kerber will not even reach the 2nd week with her current level

Might just be my stream but I can't even see the ball when it goes into the top right section of the court. The rest is covered by shadow, and as soon as the ball hits the light I lose it against the clay. Where is blue clay when ya need it :(

Mugu rolling first serves in and playing kinda grindy/pushy.

She's not even trying for some of these balls either. A handful in that last game she just stands there watching them go.
