Goerges deserved to win but couldn't pull it off. She played two very long matches in this tournament, vs Van Uytvanck and the SF against Petkovic. In each of those matches she lost the first set, kept falling behind in sets, making comebacks. It was up and down play and looked like she would lose those matches, but she pulled off the wins in the third sets and both Uytvanck and Petkovic made errors on big points. It must have been emotionally and physically draining. This will also be her 3rd final loss this year.
Makarova didn't give her the opportunity to comeback in the third set unlike her previous opponents. Goerges to win the title, needed to be consistently dominant or a lucky break in the form of a weaker opponent in the final.
Sorry I missed it! I was "off the grid" for a very long weekend. I just got home and I've just turned the TV on to watch her Rogers Cup match. Go Bianca!
