is Delpo strong on clay? His success so far has been on HC, no?

gut feeling is we're gonna see a WTA style french open, with someone random winning and then losing every match the rest of the year

used to be prior to 2014.
played awesome in RG 2009. fed-delpo in the SF was a classic, clearly better quality than their USO final a few months later. basically like stan in RG 15, only fed stopped him in 09.

12, was playing well before getting tired/slightly injured vs fed (in QF)
11, was stopped by djoko in 4 sets.

nearly took Nadal to a 5th set in DC in 11 on clay.

Congrats to Del Potro on winning his 21st title (6th in number of titles won by active players) and 9th at 500 level (1st since 2013 Basel). He becomes the 3rd Argentinian to win in Acapulco after Chela (2000, 2007) and Callieri (2003).

In winning the title he came through a brutal draw to beat 3 top 10 players back to back all in straight sets (Thiem, Zverev and Anderson) and also a 4 times former champion (Ferrer). Can he carry on his great form into Indian Wells and Miami and finally land a maiden Masters 1000 title?

Where is everyone tn o_O

Guess @Meles gave up on the Next Gen
Been busy this week, but watching via replay and a lot live. Been following Jarry in Sao Paolo.;)

Zedrot showed some gumption against Delpo and was a surprisingly entertaining matchup this time versus their fast court encounter last Fall. Delpo easily with the best serve game of his career now. Zedrot still lost at sea on 2nd serve and now has tweaked his knee (an ominous sign for such a tall player.) Zedrot's 2nd serve velocity has plummeted since his last match with Delpo and so have his 2nd serve points won (the whole reason for the Zedbot moniker). It's rather amazing how seemingly clueless the team and commies are to this reality.

With luck the knee will force him to some off time and he'll recover his 2nd serve game. We're basically watching peak 2016 Zverev which of course is a weak top 10 player at best.

If Thiem-Delpo meet on the RG dirt we need to make a friendly wager :)

Did you notice that Delpo has hardly been slicing at all? Somehow his confidence in the 2HB has come back, and that makes him less attackable.
The Delpo backhand gag has been very complex for sometime. Now he's got the capability to hit some down the line winners and can hit over with depth cross court. Delpo didn't slice as much with Thiem because its not always a great idea given that the Thiem forehand is quite effective against slices. The gag of course is Delpo guards it making for a very narrow target where players either go wide or allow him to run-around to his forehand kill shot. The final piece de resistance is the Delpo running forehand. Delpo's a very tough not to crack and Thiem did a great job late in their match taking time away from Delpo with saber like bunt/blocks of 2nd serves well into the court in order to rush Delpo into UEs.

Delpo is the master of the slice at this point and saw him toying with Zverev with surprising effect to keep Zed's two-hander at bay; his slice has never been a liability and is nearly UE free. Low bouncing courts tend to neuter Delpo, but indoor season is over for him until the Fall.

Agree w previous comments. Delpo really utilizing the slice very well - more so the last 6 months than i've seen from him ever before and it gave him an edge strategy wise both in this match as well as against zvervsy. Still a ways from fed level slicing but great to see big hitters varying tempo like this. Great serving today as well, especially the t-licking first. Biggest thing today imo was how andersson's poor movement was exposed, he's jumping up and down right around his serve and in between shots but then can't seem to get any real spring in his first step. And that trip caused by delpo's lob was among the strangest things i've seen in a long time - looked like a clean air step like you would only see from a person heavy under the influence..

Overall great win for delpo and really hope he holds on to this form all the way to the french

62 54 15-40 and Thiem breaks. :p

Do you mean why do you think it’s happening or why is it happening.

If the latter, I think before you ask why you have to demonstrate that it’s true. You have to back it up with the data not your anecdotal experience. I’ve noticed DelPo always plays possum when he’s losing but I’ve seen a small fraction of his matches so maybe he doesn’t do it when he’s losing and I’m not watching or maybe it makes a big impression on me when he does it and I think he does it more than he actually does.

Well, it stands true for most of the bets I've done over a year. Everytime my pick has 2-3 BPs or even go up 30-0 on the opponent's serve, they almost never ever break. But when the opponent has just 1 BP on my pick's serve, they almost always break. I guess it could just be some bad omen?
