Federer's ground game is still pretty shaky. He hasn't been tested at all this tournament. I still think Cilic has a decent shot based on how he's playing.

Nope. The way Fed was playing after a few games, Cilic has no chance.

Fed will be the victor in as many sets as it takes.

Something just isn't right. It can't just be luck at this point. Cilic was injured, crying and muggish in Wimbledon final too. I remember a lot of his opponents taking MTO's last year in AO. I don't know whether the favouritism with the guys scheduling has anything to do with it, but the whole situation is just bizarre. I have honestly never seen anything like it in my life.

It's the oldest tour on average in the Open Era and young players all have glaring holes in their games which is why they have trouble navigating the draw.

Fed was also taking MTOs last year's AO.

That really was disgraceful from Chung. I don't doubt he has a sore foot but you have to try something. It was hardly like he couldn't move at all. He should have tried red lining it. Just tee off on everything. Instead he runs up to a drop shot, pushes another unforced error over the baseline and decides he's had enough.

Any medical professionals here?

I mean can they not drain a blister, spray it with a numbing anti-bacterial, bandage it up and be good to go?

Seems like something that should be easily remediable... or am I completely wrong?

Good point.
At least bring the pain level down to tolerable levels so that you can continue playing with mild discomfort.

Not sure tennis has been in this bad of a state since the OE began tbh. Hopefully the final delivers.

I thought so too, we'll have to listen to his explanation in the presser. I guess the blister was on one of the feet. I remember Nadal playing with serious hand blisters a few years ago and actually reaching the Final

Whatever the case not one person on here commented that he looked like he would retire. He had marginally impaired movement, a sore foot and wasn't playing well, so he quits the biggest match of his life.

What stands out more to me is how a guy that is going to be 37 this year is moving better than 23 year olds while Rafa is basically a mummy at this point at 31 and Djokovic is falling apart at 30????? Every other tennis player at this age was in a body bag induced retirement but he is still winning majors and going to Grand Slams finals. I will have whatever he is having is all I'm saying.

Wow... Just wow. Guy is into the final without playing no one. And his fans had the nerve to laugh at Nadal's draw. Not a conspiracy type guy but if Cilic ends up injured in final then I will believe that they are fixing it for him. I mean even hardcore Fed fanatics would have to admit that it is very unsusal (ambitious I know, lmao).
Remember Djokovic's path to the USO 2016 final?

I'm not sure what they are going to do next year when they are reducing the seeds. It's going to be a bad move since this will hurt the youngsters.

LOL trying to compare crying in your own private time to crying in front of the world. Desperate little Fed worshiper aren't you?

Fed also cried after he won wimbeldon in 2017 and his children came out and he saw them. P@@y. What a disgrace. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. @The_Order WTF BRO. WHY TF IS FED DOING THIS. YOU TELL HIM @The_Order YOU TELL HIM. BRO YOU BETTER SORT HIM OUT BRO DO IT. JUST DO IT BRO. BRO WHY AREN'T YOU DOING IT BRO. WTF BRO?? BRO YOU GONNA TELL HIM? BRO WHY AREN'T YOU TELLING HIM? BRO WHY?? BRO I WANNA SEE NADS IN HIS ALL PINK HOTPANTS AND FLAKING A MATCH WITH HIS GRADE 1 MUSCLE TWINGE AND GO UP TO FED AND TEACH HIM A THING OR TO ABOUT TOUGHENING UP. BRO MAKE IT HAPPEN

Nads love his MTO in private too when its not in a private area. Wonder why?? YOU ASK HIM BRO. ASK HIM BRO. WTF BRO

Style of game. Nadal's body should have been broken down a long time ago because of his physical style. He runs and runs. That doesn't work past the age of 30. Djokovic has the same style as well. Past 30 and no adjustments thus far.

Very usbfortunate way to go out for Chung. Wishing him a quick recovery. Would have LOVED to see Roger tell him “stay out here and let’s do the interview together.”

Match was a best possible scenario for Roger.

Only had to play 90 mins, got the timing and movement going well, even if the serve was sub par...can hit some tomorrow if he wants.

Major advantage for him is that body will recover for the final.

Hope it’s a great final in 48 hrs. The way Marin and Roger are playing at the moment. I expect it should be.

Fed will have to bring out his best tennis against cilic i feel. We will see.

Only if Iron Cilic shows up and he can sustain that form throughout the match. He usually blows hot and cold and has a poor record vs Big Four players. Let's hope he doesn't have another nervous breakdown like in the Wimbledon final.

I have to think Federer will win the match vs Cilic in four tops, but let's see.

do you think lack of surface variety and style has to do with it? i mean i realize the game has gotten more physical with the technology and all, but it is seriously sad to see

I agree, but he's probably gonna win another slam without dropping a set. At any age this is amazing. But at Fed's age it's just jaw dropping.

It's hot and cold these days but he can still get depth on it and hit winners from time to time. I am sure some of these top players would love to have it.

In Rod Laver’s book he talks about playing in 40 degree heat without shade and without seats! Chung really has taken the Henin route here. If you can still jog and swing the racquet, you play. If it means bagels who cares? Gaudio took it like a man.

The sport has changed since Laver.
