Raonic is out with a knee injury. Zverev is the defending champ. Djokovic is the finalist.

Wawrinka is in Rome practicing. We'll find out if he's fit enough to play.

    Ferrer is back.

Expecting the clay domination to continue. Draw is at 6.30 PM local.

    Out:

Agut, Chung, Kyrgios. Nick was practicing on site, I guess he decided he wasn't ready after all. Good thing he withdrew before the draw was made.

Tsitsipas is #1 seed in qualies and plays Kukushkin 1R, then the redhot Lajovic/Florian Mayer winner.

And a workable draw as well though I do believe Sock destroyed him in the Auckland final back a few years. Lost to Khachanov in Montpellier this year. Just has to get past to Dimitrough or Glassikori and it will be smooth sailing.:p

Zverev arguably is in the driver's seat for Madrid:
owns Anderson, 2-0 vs Shapo, and has always played Thiem tough and a much, much better player since their last encounter on clay (Thiem much improved as well, but still not as much).

Zedbot is unbroken in Madrid and likely won't need to defend Rome. If Zverev wins Madrid he's uncatchable and will be #2 Seed at RG.o_O Which of course means a Nadal free existence all the way to the final.

Tsitsipas and Coric both need to make QF's in Rome to keep Roland Garros free of potentially the two most dangerous floaters in tournament history. R16 would probably do it.

Coric plays Qualifier first round and it could easily be Tsitsipas. If Tsitsi qualifies he could also get Schwartzman, Edmund, or Coric first round (3 in 7 chance unless some further withdrawals, LLs). Out of the frying pan and into the fire, another spot gives him Zverev 2nd round. The easy route is a 3 in 7 chance of getting Isner or Djoko 2nd round.

Coric has a great draw with a hapless Delpo 2nd round not as bad as it looks. 1 in 7 chance of Tsitsi hitting Coric round 1.

Looks like a pretty good chance that one of these two will not be seeded for RG and make for a very nasty floater for someone.

    Of course, it was obvious.
He was just running carefully going thru matches at Munich.
And couldn't hit forehand from later in 1st set vs Zverev.
Either his ankle not recovered or made it worse.
I'm also guessing he is born with weak left ankle and will continue to be an issue particularly for his forehand.
