Glad I went on record days back saying Novak was gonna straight set Kei. It was so obvious.

Novak’s fans did well to cheer for him against Cilic tho I imagine he’d have lost too.

Novak is going all the way. He didn't really reach for high gear today. His level is quite scary right now.

I must say I cheered for Cilic, though. Not becsuse I thought he'd be easier, but because I like him a lot more.

Oh well, we got ripped off again. again NO super semifinals..... and these guys are killing tennis in America. They just lowered the tennis popularity in USA by 60 %. Maybe now they will lower the Laver cup price by 1/2. Who wants to go see that Tennis Exo when real tennis like US open is this boring................

Maybe tennis itself has become boring.

the 2010 and 11 USO semis between Federer and djokovic were nearly identical scorelines.

Djokovic's 'renaissance' started in the summer of 2010.

idk what you all are arguing, that 2011 just came out of nowhere???

no, they weren't nearly identical scorelines. Fed was up 2 sets to love in USO 2011. it was 1 all in USO 2010.
fed played considerably better in the USO 2011 semi. so did Djokovic.

you want to argue that 2010 USO just came out of nowhere ? rather than slowly building up from USO 2010, getting a big boost after DC win and work during off-season in 2010?

That was a proper beat down.

Still, Kei will always have 2014 and it's his first major semi for a while. So not all bad.

Just gonna have to accept he's another tennis nearly man who Doesn't quite have the game to make that final step.

i didn't or ever said it was peak Djoko.

as a matter of fact, i believe i said it was Nole 1.9 vs Nole 2.0 of 2011 (which many threads will show from that time).

but don't try and act like he wasn't playing well at 2010 USO!

either way, Nadal beat Djokovic in 2013 at the USO, or are you going to say Djokovic wasn't ATG caliber then either

it was djoko 1.0., i.e a return to djoko of 07,08 and some part of 09.
not djoko 1.9

The match was so lacking in drama that we had to listen to Pam Shriver interview Chevy Chase in the crowd, using half the screen and making it impossible to watch the match. I turned off the sound until she was done. But in fairness to her, it was that dull.

Watching Novak in this match was about like watching Nadal this year at RG. Whatever problems he had in early rounds, they were gone against Nishikori.

It is almost as bad as the old Borg/Gerulaitis rivalry.

I said that this court was slow, about as slow as the AO was before 2017 edition, and it suits Djokovic's game.
USO has ALWAYS suited Novak's game. That's why he has 8 finals there (and let's not forget his very first slam final was at USO).

Of course he never peaked until Federer was almost 30. And Nadal has won plenty of matches against "peak" Djokovic.
He's won plenty on clay. Outside of clay, he's won a grand total of 2 over the last 7 years (both in the summer of 2013).
Djoko is 13-2 vs Nadal on hard and grass combined since 2011. (It's 7-7 on clay since 2011)
Actually, to give you an even better idea of how much peak Djoko has dominated Nadal: the only event where they've played more than once since 2011 and where Nadal is leading Djoko is RG (3-1 Nadal). All the others are either a tie or adv Djoko:
W: 2-0 D
USO: 1-1
WTF: 2-0 D
IW: 2-0 D
MIAMI: 2-0 D
MC: 2-1 D
ROME: 3-2 D
MAD: 1-1

Beijing: 2-0 D

Exactly. Nadal has failed to play Djokovic here quite a few times. Also, his first win against Djokovic was 2010, before he became a dominant force.

Bears mentioning, Nadal never faced Novak in a HC slam when the latter wasn't involved in a grueling 5 setter the round before (every single time).

H2H can be a very misleading stat in tennis. That doesn't mean it has no weight (it does) but at times needs to be put into context.

Kei has a stoic attitude but at the same time he never really pumps himself into a zone. There's a bit of a kei sera sera about him if you will.

Interesting news:

Djoker, thanks to his victory over Kei this year at the US Open, has completed his personal 'Nishi Slam', Ultron won a match against Ninja on 2010 French Open (2R; 6:1, 6:4, 6:4), on 2016 Australian Open (QF; 6:3, 6:2, 6:4), in 2018 Wimbledon (QF; 6:3, 3:6, 6:2, 6:2) and on 2018 US Open (SF; 6:3, 6:4, 6:2).
Djoker also has a complete personal 'Fedal Slam' (win over Roger and Rafa in all GS tournaments) and 'Jo-Will' Slam.
