So is there a history of favouritism when it comes to AO schedule or isn't there? Should Fed reach the AO final this year he'll play 4 out of 7 finals with one day less rest.

Recent years, you mean those in which Fed is basically only a factor at Wimbledon which as you stated has a clear rule? You can scrap FO where he hasn't been a contender in years, he reached 2015 USO F but he played a 2nd semi there, not that it really matters ever since the SF and F aren't played on back-to-back days in USO.

Leaves 2017 AO where probably not even his parents believed he was gonna contend for the title. His half playing first more likely had to with Murray than Fed who was largely written off (with good reason obviously).

Nope, as I said I don't have a problem with that. As long as it isn't paired with playing down Delpo and Novak as looming threats while hyping up Dimitrov, Kyrgios or Isner.

We'll see how it all plays out anyway, draws can fall apart or have surprises in store. There's room for young players like Kyrgios and to a lesser degree Zverev (because he faces Novak early) to prove themselves but I'm not holding my breath.

    Rafa's half is playing first?

Organizers decided not to be biased like last year, great news.

I’m still off the forums for a while, but I just came here to say I correctly predicted Fed would win this last year when no one else saw it, and he is once again a lock here barring injury.

Nadal will not make it to the SF’s. I honestly have no idea what to expect from Djokovic.

Enjoy number 20 Fed fans. #VamosDelpo

I just hope he doesn't lay down to Rafa in the final :(

Oh please, terrible organizers know the Nadal is a injured and they stop him from getting one day more rest to recover the knee. Terrible...Estella Burger will be very tough opponent now.

Federer is ****ed this year. His draw is a nightmare and he gets a days less rest. It's definitely worth a look to bet heavy on Nadal this year. He will be 100 percent rested and his draw is a joke. If he has to go through Del Potro and Djokovic at 37 years old there's not a chance he's beating Rafa in the final

Its on Djokovics racquet this AO 2018 if manages to stay healthy, he can make it to the finals in cruise mode, if he is Healthy he will step a notch and win this and the sunshine double. The serve is there, he needs to get rid of the rust on ground strokes as matches progress.

    Cheers

Hmm. In Fedfans' heads, "Tio Toni is doing his dirty work". I became curious about who is 'doing his/her dirty work' for Fedfans' beloved one.

Is Rafa more motivated after his runner-up finish in 2017? "Is impossible to be more motivated than last year or any year. For me, Australian Open always, if you are not enough motivated, 100% motivation to play this tournament, probably you don't love this sport" #AusOpen

I didn't mean just last year. If you did the counting of the last 6-7 years, you'd see that Federer plays first most of the time. He rarely gets to start a major on Tuesday. Considering how closely you've followed him I am sure you know it as well. So it was indeed surprising that AO changed it this year and I am quite positive that it was due to last year's final. Many would question the scheduling if they did the same this year.

PS: you are right about one thing though. An extra day rest between semi and final is not necessarily helpful or a deciding factor. In normal circumstances, one day rest is enough. Many players may even prefer that to keep them in same rhythm/routine. That's what they get everywhere else and I think AO too should schedule both their semis on Friday like other majors. But if the semis go to 5 sets like last year it definitely becomes an advantage for one guy.

No, that's a mistaken presumption on your part. Just because I watch a lot of tennis (and Fed in particular) doesn't mean I keep a track of scheduling. It is something that barely registers on my radar aside from when it came to USO in the past.

Oh you mean like "many" are questioning Nadal getting both a soft draw and an extra day rest this year? That the other main contender is 36 year old is just a cherry on the cake.

Hard to weave the usual BS anti-establishment/rebel/underdog narrative this time around when Nadal received every advantage possible.

Narrative. Are people really that daft? The reason Federer had the extra day last year was because he happened to be in Murray's half (the world number 1 at the time). Nothing to do with Federer. Did anyone including VB members predict Roger was going to be in the final? Maybe the AO organizers knew Federer and Nadal would make the final so they put Federer with Murray?

Dunno what VB is still moaning about. Nadal has received every single advantage so you can drop the narrative now.

If you are implying that the top half (the one containing the current number 1 player) always start on monday, you are wrong since it has also happened that the bottom half of the draw started on monday (see one of my post in one of the previous pages).
I checked the AO draws from 2014-2017 and which half of the draw started on monday and there is no clear systematic logic to determine which half of the draw will start first.
