Hello friends, long time no chat (since the US Open actually).

Great to see my girl Svitolina’s first time as a betting favorite. Picked her to win in my bracket. All in on Eli!

When did Sloane sign with Nike? And who did UA to replace her?

If Martic ever manages to pull her fitness and strength together, watch out.

Almost as unlikely as Giorgi ever managing to think in terms of marginal tradeoffs. (Although she did play much better at Sydney with that pro coach guy.)

Yeah. Giorgi did quite well at Sydney. Won 2 Q matches to get into the main. Then took out Stephens, Kvitova and Radwanska before finally succumbing to Kerber in the SF round. Way to go Camila!

Looks like Bellis needed a little break. Back on serve!

CiCi appears to have some very good analytic skills. When I've seen her on change-over conferences with her coach, she seems to do much of the analyzing and talking herself. Often uses her coach as a sounding board when she calls them in.

Bellis now up 6-5. But Bertens could take it to a TB on her serve.

Surprised Babos doesn't have her ankles taped. I saw her take a fairly scary sprain during a doubles match not too long ago. She's still down a break to Coco.

Bertens has the uglier serve of the two. But results a bit better on 1st serve than Bellis in 1st set. Bellis far better than Bertens on 2nd serve points.

Perhaps a bit. Listed as 168 cm on WTA but 170 on Wiki. But that might not mean anything.

Bellis walking away with the TB?
I may or may not have rounded up Svitolina’s height to 5’9 on Wikipedia when converting from metric when she was being listed at 5’8 everywhere else and now everyone lists her as 5’9 :D

Good win for Kanepi who's been in form since returning to the tour from injury last year. Rough draw for former finalist Cibulkova.

Not shocked to see Sloane lose. Zhang is great and a former QFist at the AO.

Sad that one of Venus/Bencic has to bow out 1R. Looks like it'll be Vee. That'll hurt her ranking.

Read back in November that UA may drop sponsorship of tennis and fishing???? Guess Sloane, after winning the US Open, is the Whale they cannot afford to keep.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, Cici does look a bit taller than when I saw her a couple years ago a local tournament.

It is not unheard of for teenagers to grow.

Edit.. or wait, is it? (hits Wikipedia)

Huh, remove snark, it should stop at about 16. Still a teenager, but certainly not at 18y/o!

Wow, some good stats from Goerges. Has now won 15 straight matches.

Big choke from 2015 SFist Makarova. She was 6-3, 4-0 up and then 5-2 up in the 3rd... and loses to Begu. Her first time losing 1R out of 11 attempts. Usually loves Melbourne.

Sloane loses her 8th match in a row, yet to win a match since winning the US Open.
