Difficult to understand, such a bad year for Dimi. He is 17th in the race, for a guy that ended #3 ranked last year and won London (where he won't even join this year) it's really a breakdown.

And we can't blame Sharapova.
Yeeep what is going on. Just get Boris om the case. Why is he wasting time with Dani!

He needs a new voice in his box or at least add in another person. Annacone or Becker, or even Lendl if the partnership with Giraffe won’t work out.

Khachaniv is the most predictable player right now. You know that the moment he meets a top player he will lose. For a guy with a big game, he isn't the upset kind of guy. He couldn't even beat Zverev at RG, the easiest upset possible.

He's really not that great of a talent. He's overachieving this year and surprising me with his level. Got broken late in the 2nd against Delpo and then broke back to get into TB right away. Khach is a guy who just is doing everything right to get the most out of his game and frankly its very, very impressive. Both he and Medvedev were one of the two weaker players at Milan last year and now both are just A+ for their level and how they're finding a way. Khachanov ffs I would have said outdoor hard was his weakest surface before this Summer. Its hard to complain about him, but you've found a way.:D

Lajovic, Dusan Serbia over Dimitrov, Grigor Bulgaria 64 26 64
Edmund, Kyle Great Britain over Berrettini, Matteo Italy 75 67 75
Krajinovic, Filip Serbia overLopez, Feliciano Spain 76 63
Del Potro, Juan Martin Argentina over Khachanov, Karen Russia 64 76

I've not seen the entire Delpo match (some comments in post above), but my understanding is he broke Khach early in the first and that was pretty much that set. I'll probably watch a big chunk of the match over dinner, but Khach looked at his best for parts at the end of the 2nd set. The rest of these were hardly a surprise save Dimitrough's folly; perhaps he'll come around on lower bouncer indoor events.;) Hopefully Edmund can get the job done vs Lajovic to rescue the semis here. Krajinovic will play Delpo Friday in one of the QFs.

Surprisingly easy win from Don Fabio over Rublev. Impressive.

Rublev trying to find his form is like @Sysyphus trying to push a boulder up a hill.

Calling @Meles for some objective analysis of this match. The Fabolous One couldn't overcome the slice of the young Tunisian. Seems that Kohlschreiber made a blueprint for the lower ranked players, on how to beat the German.

Anyone knows what's the count of Zvev's smashed raquets? It can be interesting to compare with the past years as a possible stress level parameter. Wonder If @Meles keeps track of this statistic as well!

A tall guy like Zvev will always be vulnerable on low skiddy balls on his 2HBH side.
I am sure Lendl felt like getting into court to hit one of his 1HBH down the line on those floating chops from Jaziri.:D

Everyone has figured out that junkballing Zverev and avoiding backhand rallies is the way to go. Just play as unconventional as possible.

Sousa match gave some hope, but Rublev still looks like doogy. Fabio on fire. Hoping for Los Cabos final rematch with Fog and Delpo

LOL, Jaziri has the perfect game to really get under Zverev's skin and expose his flaws and play the points to their advantage. Also a nice profit made ;)

Well done Malek, he looked pretty good against Yibing as well. I'll check it out a bit later..

Wow, now Basilashvili in the QF. Interesting match... Two of fav journeyman going at it.

And this is why I can't stand some of the players on the ATP  Don't they know Zoolander, I mean ZVEV likes the returns to be in his wheelhouse, not crappy skiddy balls or junk balls. If they had a shred of sportsmanship, they'd feed him returns in his wheelhouse so it will be GAME-ON. It's un-sportsman like to hit otherwise :D

You should have seen the difference in BPs converted lol, Zverev created far more opportunities on return and was more convincing on serve himself for majority of the match. Jaziri just took his opportunities when it mattered the most.

There's a couple of obvious playing styles which can cause Zverev the most grief on court and today Jaziri employed one of them. Jaziri is always rather awkward to play against and was often disputing Zverev's rhythm from the ground today. He used the slice backhand cross-court into Zverev's own backhand so frequently, and the reply was typical of Zverev in this particular pattern of play.

Cross-court drive backhand struck at 70% or so. Every damn time. No aggressive footwork or any sort of movement to find a meaningful forehand, even when he had quite a bit of time to set up on the ball. I suppose that's what you get when you're relatively backhand dominant. No DTL change up, no drop shots, nothing. Though he did use his own slice backhand every so often, but to minimal effect. Jaziri often won many of those exchanges, patiently constructing the points into his favor. Jumping on shorter balls, moving forward and finishing off points, etc. Zverev's forehand was just too sporadic as well, he found it quite difficult to string together enough points and build on some momentum, besides some of the 2nd set (which had Jaziri serving at a pitiful 29% 1st serves).

He smashed his racquet after being broken for the match, you knew it would happen. I'd wager he liked his chances to edge out a tight three setter whilst not playing at his best, which would do the confidence a world of good. He was annoyed at how he played those final two points at 40-40 most definitely....

Anyway, great win for Malek and an interesting first meeting against Nikoloz tomorrow. Looking forward to that.

I would love to see a Fognini vs. Edmund final, but I have the feeling that del Potro will win. The only one of the four semi-finalists who I don't like very much is Basilashvili. Both semi-finals have the potential to be really great matches! :)

It's not even funny how effective Nikoloz's backhand was compared to Zverev's own backhand. Now that Nikoloz is playing with more controlled aggression these days, his backhand has really become one of the best drives on tour, and definitely an underrated shot that doesn't get too much attention. It's the consistent pace he gets combined with the depth that's becoming more and more difficult for players to counter.

Jaziri does often become emotionally uninvolved and without any intensity, it's annoying to watch when you're a fan. He struggles to ride out the storm and instead just goes through the motions until the match is over. His plays become far more in the way of desperation tactics and poorly executed shots.

Niko steadily climbing up the rankings, will be around #22 to #26 after this week.....

I didn't know that Fognini withdrew ): This will make it easier for del Potro to win this tournament. still I am holding out hope for Edmund but I have a funny feeling the unlikable (at least for me) Basilashvili will somehow make it to the final ): Oh well, the Tokyo Open has been awesome, so one out of two isn't bad...

I hope Basilashvili makes it. To me his game is more interesting than Edmund. Edmunds forehand is awesome but it stops there.

Another classic Edmund clutch performance! Up 4-1 in the TB to lose 6-8, then claws back into the match from 2-5 down with a hold and a break only to get rebroken.

Anything is possible with the guy that singlehandedly allowed Jacques Chaussette to climb into the top 10.
