I don’t think USA can pull off the comeback, but I’ve seen some great DC matches before.

Neither singles was close. Stevie was obviously never going to do anything against in form Borna Coric. I was a little disappointed in Frances’ performance against Cilic, I thought he at least could’ve gotten a set.

The doubles rubber is looking really tasty for tomorrow though...

Canada won't win the Davis Cup but they have an interesting mix of talent ranging in age from 18 to 46....Daniel Nestor could be the father to most of the team. It's clearly a team for the future....but it'll be interesting to see how far they run this DC.

DF on BP gives Ivashka the lone break of the second set and he serves it out, 7-6(2) 6-4. Classic mental win. Hamsterev chokes once again, sad!

On match point for Raonic against De Bakker, if it was Monfils instead of Raonic, I feel almost certain he would have gone for a 360° smash.

These World group play offs must be the most pointless Davis Cup matches of all time with there being no world group next year.

Do most of the fans in the stadiums know the ties have no value?

What is the reward for the winner, a seeding in the February play offs?

Haase takes first set easily. Denis started his 'erroneous' ways and that was that.

Perhaps trade the headband for the chapeau, Sampson?

ETA: and he has. The hat is back on. :p

We gotta match now as Shapo changes strategy with a high deep lob

I've never seen Denis play with this strategy (loopy shots)....so different than his usual style. I think Frank the Tank gave him good advice after the 2nd set.
And, or course, the hat is helping.

did they find a NEW superstar from France......... I had no idea Paire had it in him to beat Busta so easy. Paire could win a major next year if he can keep this confidence up. he has the talent

I think you quoted the wrong post, but I agree with you....where the heck did this Paire-head come from? Perhaps he needs to play for a team? (and the she remembers the Olympics, when Paire was an unpatriotic jerk. Oh well.) You never know what you'll get with Benoit.

The hat worked! Amazing comeback by Shapo. Two sets down. He's never done that before. He completely changed his playing style to loopy shots so that Haase couldn't play off his shot speed. I think the Canadian Captain, Frank the Tank Dancevic, was key to the win and change in style.

I have new respect for Frank! Superb adjustment and grit by Shapo, superb. This is the stuff of greatness.

He was playing Haase much as Haase played him in the Rogers Cup and tonight. Haase was thrown off by the loopy soft shots and his serve Percentage finally fell off too. 78% 1st set; 75% 2nd set 65% 3rd set.

Both guys looked punchdrunk at the end. felt sorry for Robin, but he beat Denis already once this year in Canada.

Austria with a crushing start. None of the Australians can really play on clay, so no surprise.
Even Kyrgios wouldn't have made much of a difference.

Spain without Nadal losing. Though being indoors, still wouldn't have been a guarantee win even if he was healthy.

Inspired fight in the last few games, but ultimately too good from KK still. 6-2 6-4, decider it is

Phone died so couldn't report until I got home. Medvedev won the decider 7-6(4) 3-6 6-3, with crowd support being I think the decisive factor, helping Daniil clutch the TB and making Gerasimov choke the final break (though it must be said he clutchbotted from 15-40 before, actually was doing well in the clutch before that one bad game, only there was no coming back from it).
