Konta squandered 2 match points and ended up losing. As potus says, "sad".

Damn, those stats are some classic Pavlyuchenkova.

12 double faults, 40 unforced errors and yet it was a straight set match with Konta winning 7-6 6-2...

Drinking problem? Proof positive that, not only does drinking & driving not mix, drinking & tennis doesn't mix either?

Or perhaps it's a caffeine overdose.

@Aussie Darcy
CiCi fought hard, Mugu struggles thru

Rats, missed it. How was CC's serving? Noticed she got 71% of 1st serves into play but won just under half of those. 5 DFs and won only 36% of 2nd serves. Looked at match stats on WTA & Scoreboard but don't see any numbers for Winners and UEs. Did Garbine play her usual high-risk tennis?

Didn't see it, haven't watched many matches. I'm back to having a poor time zone difference + been very busy watching the Olympics :p

Pretty decent QF's in Dubai:

(1) Svitolina v (WC) Osaka
(3) Pliskova v (6) Kerber
Kasatkina v Vesnina
(5) Garcia v (2) Muguruza

5 are in the top 10. Two more are inside the top 25. Osaka outside the top 40 but always dangerous.

Yeah, also got caught up in watching the events in PyeongChang and forgot to check in on the events in Dubai.

Was Mugu always this loud?

Made more obvious cuz Bellis is very quiet. Does it come with age for some players? I recall Halep being quieter when she was younger than she is now. Hope this is not a trend. Would like to see Bellis get to the top 20 or even the top 10 w/o the vocalization.

More consistency than ATP now it seems. *Poking endless discussion ATP vs WTA

CC missed a lot of 1st serves and her second was really not great. She absorbed a lot of Mugu power and hit as hard as she could back, mainly cross court. Mug was making tons of errors, which almost cost her the 2nd set. 2nd set almost went to tiebreak after CC broke back twice. Match concluded 2 AM in Dubai.

Thnx for the feedback. However, it may have SEEMED that CC missed a lot of 1st serves cuz she missed it on important points. I know that I've been fooled by that more than once. It often appears that player A is missing a lot of 1st serves but when you check the stats you find that they were actually making nearly 2/3 of their 1st serves.

Both stat sources that I checked (Scoreboard & WTA) had CC at 71% (whereas Garbine only had 62%). This means that CC was actually missing less than 3 out of every 10 first serves. Quite good actually. But then she was only winning 49% of those first serves. Not so good. Her 2nd serve often costs her matches. 5 DFs and only winning 36% of her 2nd serves might suggests that her 2nd serve was not all that good. Contrast that with Garbine who was winning 50% of her 2nd serves in the 1st set.

If Mugu was making a ton of errors, she was likely hitting a fair amt of winners well. That is par for her high-risk style of play. (However, she does not appear to play as high-risk as someone like Ostapenko).

Osaka is absolutely destroying that ball. They're flying so fast! But it doesn't matter how hard you hit the ball if it keeps going out..

Svitolina leads 4-0.

Osaka just missed an easy shot at the net to get another break back.

Deuce with Svitolina serving up 5-2.

Osaka has woken up though. 2nd set should be good.

Svitolina has a bit of a stumble from 5-0 up but gets the first set 6-2.

Osaka playing much better. Let's see how this 2nd set goes.

This match is annoying to watch.

Svitolina might as well not be out there. It's all on Osaka's racket.

Svitolina won the first set only because of Osaka's errors. Not because of her own play.
In the first game of the second set Svitolina almost went up a break because Osaka played bad but Osaka turned it up and held serve and is now up a break 2-0 with good play. Again, had nothing to do with Svitolina.

Svitolina has no input. It's all about what Osaka does. A good Osaka is better than a good Svitolina.

Kerber back to being her glorious brick wall. Loses that point but my god she stuck in there. Pliskova saves another set point.

Kerber could win this title by having played:
Strýcová, Errani, Pliskova, Svitolina and Muguruza/Garcia.

That’s crazy and it’s only a Premier.

Definitely better then her Sydney Run (which was also epic):
Safarova, Venus, Cibulkova, Giorgi and Barty.

Svitolina- kerber h2h 6-5
All their meetings were on hc expect the last 1

Svitolina won the last 4 matches

Should be a close 1 but i think kerber will prevail

Anyone streaming wtatv? There's a practice session going on, one of the girls out there with her hitting partner (guy). Can't tell who the girl is.

They finished and now another girl with her hitting partner is out. Still can't tell who it is. Maybe Kasatkina.

Eli-Angie should be a good one.

Kerber looking really serious in 2018, no? I love the unpredictability that WTA brings but would definitely welcome having some ladies that are consistently in the final stages of tournaments.

Mugu looks good in the white.

Also maybe somebody has a better eye for this than I do, but I did think Garbie has been going for less on the serve. Did she change her toss slightly? Because she's been catching her toss a lot in the matches I've watched of hers lately. Was thinking maybe all of it is connected, but who knows.

Wins first set over Garcia.

Kasatkina is about to play against her 'mum', Vesnina. Apparently, DK has been calling her 'mother' since Moscow 2015 when they won doubles title. :)

11yr old DK with mum, 11 years apart.

Barry White is umpiring Kasatkina v Muguruza match.

Has Muguruza always shuffles left & right when receiving serves and making this wooshing and squeaking sounds with her shoes?

Mugu is currently dictating the match at 5-3. DK is constantly under pressure.

Two missed overheads so far from Mugu. Badly missed ones. Makes me feel better about my missed overheads :D.

Ultra aggressive game from Mugu continues..Mugu took the 1st set comfortably.6-3. Mugu on serve at 2-3 on second set.

DK starts to find her range with her FH, playing with more aggressive FH hey coach advise.
