First Premier Mandatory of the year.

I believe we will also finally have the tour return of the great Serena Williams. She will be unseeded too so that's one to watch.

Seeded players are: Halep, Wozniacki, Muguruza, Svitolina, Pliskova, Ostapenko, Garcia, Venus, Kvitova, Kerber, Konta, Goerges, Sloane, Mladenovic, Keys, Barty, Coco, Rybarikova, Kuznetsova, Kasatkina, Sevastova, Mertens, Pavlyuchenkova, Vesnina, Strycova, Gavrilova, Suarez Navarro, Kontaveit, Bertens, Cibulkova, Radwanska and Zhang.

Wildcards have gone to: Anismova, Azarenka :D, Bouchard, Collins, Day, Dolehide, Liu and Zhuk

Withdrawals so far: Konjuh, Gasparyan, Lucic-Baroni, Peng, Safarova and Siegemund.

Vesnina is the defending champion in singles, Chan/Hingis were the defending champs in doubles but Hingis has of course retired. Chan playing with her sister once more.

Number 1 ranking is in play. Wozniacki must reach at least the final to have a shot at regaining the top ranking.

Qualifying is stacked too: Hsieh, Niculescu, Brengle, Schiavone, Townsend, Tomljanovic, Petkovic and more.

So who will win this very exciting tournament?
Have done a poll, decided to remove Ostapenko and Garcia as options so I could put Serena and Kerber in the options as I rate their chances more.

Been quite a while since we've had this many slam champs in a draw: 12 or 13.

Wozniacki, Muguruza, Ostapenko, Venus, Kvitova, Kerber, Sloane, Kuznetsova, Sharapova, Stosur, Azarenka, Serena and possibly Schiavone.

Good draw looming.

Miami will be even crazier with Bartoli also in the ring following her return. These draws will be insanely good.

Errani over Bondarenko in the IW Challenger 6-4 6-2. I caught the last few games and it seemed hard for her to close it out. She served the winning point underhanded  Anyways a win is a win, congrats to Sara.

Jana Fett over Wozniacki in the final, calling it now. She’s been training hard, revenge is sweet.

A new Masters winner perhaps?
Who in the draw has already won IW?

Anyone know what's happened to Jankovic? Injured or nearly retired?

The former Indian Wells champ is down to #283 in the live rankings. Hasn't played since the US Open.

Serena, Sharapova, Wozniacki, Azarenka, Halep and Vesnina have all won Indian Wells.

Top 16 players who have never won a Premier 5/Premier Mandatory:
#6 Ostapenko, #10 Kerber, #13 Sloane, #12 Goerges, #14 Keys, #16 Vandeweghe. All the others have.
Kerber never won 1 interesting

4 runner ups.

She has 7 Premier titles though. 4

Came close most recently in 2016 in Cincy but lost in the final to Pliskova.

It was funny actually, Kerber was going for the number 1 ranking in that final but the loss to Pliskova meant Serena held onto it. Karolina in her winners speech said 'you deserve to be number 1 but maybe next time' and Kerber had a bit of an eye roll. Couple of weeks later, Pliskova knocked Serena out of the US Open SF which meant Kerber would gain the #1 ranking as she had already made the final earlier that night. Interesting little bit of history ;)

4 Premiers in 2015 and 2 slams and a Premier in 2016. Came close in Cincy but lost in the final to Pliskova.

Bacsinszky is in the draw which is great to see. She hadn't played since Wimbledon last year when she made her return in St Petersburg in January but was upset by Rybakina.

She opens against Wang.

At the time of posting that, former champ Zvonareva wasn't in qualifying but someone must've withdrawn and she got in as an alternate. She smoked Duval 6-2 6-1 and now the 2009 champ is one win away from the main draw. So that makes possibly 7 former champs in the draw.

Serena with some errors there including a bad miss and a double fault but still looks far better then her other exhibiton and Fed Cup performance.

I think she can get past Diyas and perhaps Bertens. Venus will be a challenge although she hasn't played much lately either.

Svitolina wins the tiebreak tens in great form. Will win the Sunshine double and French Open.

36 points played, won 30 of them.

Beat Venus 10-3, Coco 10-0 and Zhang 10-3.

Takes home $250k. Easiest money really..
