Martic-Halep and Pliskova-Osaka QFs would be more than allright with me. Halep and Pliskova are top 10, Osaka is one of the biggest young hopes and Martic is a wonderful player with high tennis IQ who I love watching and rooting for.

I have to tell you you're in for it. I've been watching Martic and rooting for her skill since 2012 :(

Gone through things like her entering 4 slams injured just to pick up 1st round prize money.

I know, I'm not new to Petra either. :-(

She seems healthy finally, though, and I'd like to see her against Simona. No expectations, though.

So then she would have played as #22 - wouldn't she have been seeded? She was about 22nd with AO points alone.....

I think they do the entry cutoff and seeds differently. Entry cutoff is done around 4-6 weeks before the tournament, whereas seedings are done according to the monday before the draw is done.

I think that Naomi Osaka hit the jackpot when she got Sascha Baijin (?sp) as her coach. He spent 10 years in Serena’s camp and is therefore privy to all of the knowledge and improvements that has kept Serena in the champions circle. Because Naomi’s game is similar in style to Serena’s (big serving, big hitting), Sascha has a great foundation to work with in Naomi. Her consistency has already improved dramatically with him. He can help her harness her power now instead of her wasting years being a brainless ball basher (like Madison ).

I just knew Simona would have a far easier time today. Such a pattern!

Come on, Simona & Petra, give me the QF I want!

TC was hyping up Anasimova so I have to watch some of the match with Karolina.

She's very impressive for sure.

Figure her run is bound to come to an end today, though. She's been on a cloud and probably can't keep that up forever, and Pliskova plays so aggressive.

Well, as expected Pliskova has been overwhelming her and she hasn't really found her rhythm.

But she finally gets on the board with a hold for 1–5, much to the crowd's delight. Hopefully she can make this a bit more competitive still.

Well, things have certainly gotten more interesting in the second set, and AA has begun to find her range. Held her serve twice, and had BPs in both Pliskova service games this set but couldn't convert. Can she keep holding serve?

Venus for IW, Serena for Miami. I’m here for it.

Tho I really have such a feeling she’s gonna lose her next match.
That other young lady is ranked below her ... do you think it's going to be Venus emotional & physical fatigue that's the problem, or do you think she's just going to get outplayed ... ? I mean, there's part of me that shares your concern - I'm still upset about last year's Wimbeldon final - but I'm also encouraged that this is best of three.

Had to watch some of Anisimova myself after hearing all the hypes. Definitely has potential, but still in raw form - both emotionally, point construction.

It's 5-5 now. Let's see whether we're going to see a 3rd set.

Nah I don't think she's gonna get outplayed but I do think Sevastova is a very awkward match-up. Slicing, dicing, throwing opponent off rhythm is her specialty. I don't think the playing style is what Venus wants. But, hey, let me be wrong again b/c I did think Serena would win last night....

Osaka has only played Pliskova once.

Pliskova won the first set but Osaka won the 2nd in a tiebreaker but she retired after being broken 1-0 in the 3rd due to an injury she had earlier in the match.

If Osaka does beat Sakkari, should be a good QF.

Sascha also hit the jackpot in getting Naomi.

1. He finally got title of head coach
2. He has a young player who is not already set in her ways. His tutelage can have a major influence.
3. She's got to be top 2, if not the most talented, young player on the tour right now.

This is big for him as well.

Ah I forgot she hired him til I saw it on twitter before. She had been working with Dave Taylor last year who was with Stosur for ages including during the 2011 US Open which Stosur won. Taylor is now with Ostapenko I think.

Sascha was with Woz during 2017 as her assistant coach.

Venus v Sevastova should be underway shortly.

Venus played so well against Serena that you'd have to favour her but Sevastova is very dangerous.

Sevastova breaks to begin the match.

Venus breaks back.

Sevastova breaks once more... Not great

Wow... what a joy to watch Venus construct a point, move forward and stick the volley. Why can't the rest of the WTA do this?

Great stuff from V.

Sevastova had break point to go up a double break 4-1 and then serve for 5-1 but instead Venus saved BP, held serve and a couple games later broke Sevastova to level it back at 4-4.

Now she's up 5-4 on serve.

Not sure if it was mentioned but:

With Kerber beating Vesnina, it mmeans no Ladies are in contention for the $1 million bonus if they can win singles and doubles.

WHAT A POINT! HAD EVERYTHING!

Venus breaks!

Epic rally, then a dropshot which Venus gets to, she hits a bit of a dropper back and Sevastova scrambles to it and gets it back but Vee has the whole court to hit a winner! Brilliant!

Venus serving for a spot in the QF!

Can't believe Venus is 37. The way she's moving on court is incredible!
LOL Careful. You remember what happened to the commentator last night who mentioned her age :D

The lady is a 7x Grand Slam champion with a whole lot of Olympic hardware. Let's leave it at that. Go Queen Veeeeeeeeeeeee
