You are taking this too seriously.

Think of it this way - the tournament wants to be unique, introduce novelty and gradually increase the tempo to reach a climax on day 3

And you are going to have lower ranked players and day 1 is the chance to shine and for the bigger players to combine for doubles

Novak and Fed on the same side of the court and the intensity they fought will be remembered forever.

ofcourse, each match is worth 1 point on first day, 2 points on day 2,and 3 points on day 3 and iirc if they tie by day 3 meaning they each get to 13, then they have a doubles match tb.
